Transcoding to proxy within FCPX is purely for improving editorial performance- ie frame rate as you edit. It is not require to actually get from raw footage in to graded footage out.

Possibly an OS drive formatting issue. NFS is also a kind of vague term- this was on a Mac hard drive? A Network share- over what protocol etc.

Simply transcode to Proxy and X will do all the work.

rendering bits of the timeline in general doesn’t really save you much in the long run. What saves you much over the long run is optimizing everything that’s in a project to proxy or optimized media

The Preview app along with many paid applications can batch process multiple images in one go. I generally recommend resizing so that the resolution of the image is equivalent to 100% of the zoom factor you intend to use for optimal performance.

Other than manually overcutting- but no you can’t ‘force relink’ in X.

Going to be a mess because only raw footage the cadence order will jump on every shot- therefore automated removal will fail.

Yup- FCPX is one ‘track’ to rule them all. Any clips outside of the primary storyline must connect to it, they cannot be left independent. (This pays great benefits once you master this concept).
