Uli, thanks for trying to figure this out..

Yes, exactly, I get an image but it won’t play. (Also just realized I have the same problem even with DV!!!) Very strange. I’ve been using FCP for 7 years and never had this problem before. I mean even with a G4 Powerbook, I had no problems with this..

As for the drive, I have a SATA drive in a eSATA enclosure and have been editing HDV 24p with it for a while, have had no problems so far but definitely going to RAID soon.

And as I am having the same problem with every codec, I am pretty sure it’s not a drive speed or graphics card problem (even tried it with OfflineRT PJpeg)

Bizarre, bizarre! I am offering a free virtual beer to whoever can figure this out! 🙂

    Thanks guys.

This is from a thread from DVinfo who had a similar problem. I tried his solution. Didn’t work… any ideas to rescue me from this bizarre problem would be appreciated.

“If you ever use DCDP, read this. It took me forever to find the solution

Thank you for your messages but let’s review this situation and see what you think. It’s a MBPro 1.83ghz (radeon 1600 w/128mb). And I run all my FCP footage from/to eSATA 3gbit/s. Connected to my MBPro is a Westinghouse 1440×900 via DVI.

I am not trying to go through firewire. I cannot get external video preview past a single frame using DVI. It just doesn’t play. I don’t know what’s going on. I’ve been using FCP since version one and I am pretty good with it, just can’t figure this out so I was guessing it needed a better graphics card to preview ProRes.

Oh let me mention again: I am not trying to get a preview on the MBPro screen. I am trying to get it on the external monitor so I can edit w/preview.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
