I would like to thank you for these effects, I’ve put them to great use already for lower third backgrounds and ways to bring text in and out. I didn’t have the colorize plug-in, however I just used them as a luma map, and they did exactly what I needed them for.

It is amazing how simple it is to create these effects, but unless you know what you’re doing, you’ll never figure it out.

  • I’ve done it by creating it in 16×9, squishing it to 4×3, and the monitor will automatically stretch it back to 16×9. Quality isn’t too much of a factor because it’s going to be in the background.

Wow, so I wasn’t the only one who noticed the lack of helpful people at the Echolab booth. I was researching switchers for purchase in the future and that was one I really wanted to check out. No one one give me the time of day, well until I flipped the power switch on the demo unit. Still didn’t get a demo.

As for history, I’m not fond of their previous swichers, but it looks like they’re trying to make a come-back.

I was also surprised at how many companies are producing a small switcher again these days.

    I’ll jump in here.

I’m not sure if “True Wide Screen” means native widescreen, but I’ll treat it as if it does.

16×9 Native means that the chip is a 16×9 shape, and when you shoot in 4×3 it essentially only uses the middle of it.
4×3 Native means that the chip is a 4×3 native, and when you shoot in 16×9 you’re really letter boxing your 4×3 image.

I woudln’t recommend using a 4×3 chip for 16×9, and I don’t really see a problem using a 16×9 chip for 4×3. The 16×9 chips are usually a bit better quality. Still though, don’t expect HD quality. And if you’re shooting DVCAM, then you’re getting DVCAM.
