    Al

That’s an interesting observation. Are you using Vegas’ own multicam editor, or a 3rd party plug-in?

I will give that a go, although not having a external monitor will make for a very busy desktop. I regularly shoot with 4 cameras.

I have to colour grade a project that has 6 cameras that was constantly crashing on the editor friend of mine (about every 10-20 minutes).

I’ll see if this ‘tip’ rings true. If it does, I wonder who is at fault to restore stable dual monitor support: Sony, Microsoft or maker of the video driver?

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

Unfortunately yes. In my experience dismounting and remounting a drive or restarting the PC would cause the media to swap, but if I never shut down the PC or remounted drives all was good. A bit impractical, but it worked.

I have to agree with Steve here. You should only mess with the internal settings under instruction from Sony, or if you are addressing a very specific problem. You can get yourself into a lot of trouble.

What are your system specs? What footage are you trying to edit? What else did you change? Did you install a new video card?

    Steve

Unfortunately this is an on-going issue that affects some users (including myself) for which Sony has no known solution. Your best bet would be to report it to Sony to build up their knowledgebase on the problem and perhaps find a solution.

  • Pro and consumer cameras such as Sony’s either use Picture Motion Browser or XDCAM Xplorer to seamlessly stitch the files together. The media files can be dropped directly to the timeline (thus bypassing the tool) but they typically end up missing 3 frames at the beginning or end of each file.

If your camera came with similar software, use it. It has been provided for a reason.

Are you unable open the veg file or AVI file? In either case, you may possibly have a disk issue and you could try running a chkdsk on your drive to see if there are errors on your disk.

If you are dealing with content over say, 100~140 minutes, 2 pass VBR rendering will yield better results than a single pass VBR or CBR.

I suspect that the WINAVI Video Convertor conversion process may not conform strictly to Microsoft’s AVI specifications, hence your issues. This being a 3rd party tool, the developer may have altered the conversion algorithm, which is why problems are surfacing.

If you can avoid transcoding or converting footage, do so.
