Internal Thread Examination (other’s thoughts?)
In order to find a way to kick Vegas 11 in to optimal working conditions I decided to delve in to the “Internal” settings to see if any of the common problems (especially rendering problems) could be solved without waiting for the next update iteration.
The internal settings (a tab only visible if you hold down shift while bringing up Options -> Preferences if you do not already know) are officially unsupported. I know that sounds oxymoronic but there are lot of double negatives in the internal settings, “disable multi-processor avi rendering : false” for one. There is a handy search input at the bottom of the internal settings because there are a lot of them. My first try was “CUDA”. That came up empty. Then I tried “acceleration”. That was also a bust. What I settled on that actually worked was “thread”. Being originally a Vegas user for audio I was surprised to find a few options for soft-synths and MIDI that I did not realize existed. The two parameters that did ultimately make me scratch my head are these: Use Threaded Rendering Mixer: false Use High Priority Render Thread: false.
After setting both of these to true and rendering out a 5 minute video without effects, then with effects, I then set them back to false and rendered again. Unfortunately for me (3ghz quad core AMD 64 bit Vegas) the rendering times all remained unchanged. As these parameters are unsupported and many internal parameters are named in programming nomenclature that may or may not actually BE exactly what the words would make them out to be. Here are some other interesting ones that I would like to have other’s feedback on…..
Enable Multi-Stream Render: false this one is vague to the point of having too many possibilities
Set Track Render Thread Affinity: false the benefits of reducing to one core may or may not be useful
Track Render Buffering Latency: 2,500,000 not sure where this latency is introduced
Enable Video Render Profile Mode: false another vague one
Max Run Length of Video Pre-render: 300 This unit is in frames so I am at a loss as to its purpose
