Thanks for this.. These are XDCAM files not shot on a camera but generated in Avid. We made the proxies in the worker and it thinks they are files however in catdv itself it thinks they are tapes, so the proxies we created in the worker don’t link in catdv. How can we modify the clips in the catalogue to make them not tape based?

What is the actual thing that decides it’s a tape or file from a catdv point of view…

In Avid an ALE can have lots of columns and can be user defined so it;s not an avid restriction I think.

Thanks for reply. It’s a long story, we hoped to use AAF but in catdv the avid mediafiles we imported have ended up being attached to the same metaclips multiple times so have 16 audio tracks when they should have 8. We haven’t fathomed a way to fix this in catdv or avid that works when we import the AAF into avid. so ALE is our last hope. This is pegasus.

I can see I can look at the clip list for a Sequence but can I export and modify this? I can’t see how?

Yes that’s a fair comment, we are experimenting and I know not a suggested config. It’s not a big thing for us and to do with us needing media composer v 5.5 on as well.

If it’s a specific curiousity with our set up thats fine, rather than something we can change.

USB 3 card.. latest drivers for everything. It does work with media express. So I can play sound and vision from the same source in media express with no problem. It only doesn’t work in resolve..

Thanks for all this. To confirm the key thing is using relink between tape and file in V6. Not in 5.5

Once you have made the Dnx36 you are putting them in the Avid mediafiless folder and dragging the database into the bin to get the clips to work.

Then when the offline is complete you are using the tape/file relink option to link back to the prores files. And this can be an AMA relink rather than an import? We need to export for a grade so need to transcode to 1:1 for export. We don’t want to import because of the time and storage needed so AMA is a key bit of the process.

I’m also thinking that now we can record DNx on the Alexa then that makes it simpler because the files will just relink in Avid and no transcode is needed.

I’m not sure what you mean? We wanted to use Davinci so that we could convert to Rec 709 from Log C and also so we could add burn ins at the same time…
