the last 4 tracks really are empty, so better to ditch them, i think.
there are other empty tracks here and there, but there’s no real pattern, so i’l live with those rather than spend time hunting them down

QTChange will do do what QT Pro does, but as a batch, so that makes it quite do-able.

i’m pretty sure that’s what we’ll do, just erring on the side of caution by asking around.

the answer is NO, there isn’t a simple way to remove one specific filter from a timeline full of clips.
there USED to be a product from Edit Mule that did it, i think, but that company has disappeared, unfortunately.

the simples way to approach that task now is to open the first clip on the timeline into the viewer, flip to the filters tab, and delete the de-intertlace filter.
then WITHOUT moving from the viewer window, hit the down arrow.
you will jump to the next clip on that track, and stay in the filters tab.

so it’s still slow work but better than clicking each and every clip into the viewer.

that’s not true at all, but you may still be better of cleaning up your sequence.

the best method IMO is to export your edited timeline as a self contained quicktime.
bring it back into FCP, and apply a de-interlace filter to the whole movie.

this mans the everything is properly de-interlaced,
if you apply a de-interlace to every clip, then some things WONT be de-interlaced, such as motion effects, wipes or dissolves.
if you export, and apply the de-interlace to that, then everything is made progressive

the BEST de-interlace filter for FCP is the Nattress Smart de-interlace.
it maintains the most resolution.

the FCP default de-interlace is quicker, but not quite as good.

im against working in compressor as you cant properly monitor your work, whereas you can in FCP.
when doing a full-on de-interlace job, i use more than one seeing, depending on the nature of the shot.

however, for a very quick solution, you can and i have) set quicktime to playback de-interlaced.
that’s Quicktime player 7, which you would have if you have FCP. NOT Quictime X
(i may be wrong about X. it;d be good if i was, but i don’t think i am)

the prefs are where they always were, and no, you don’t need a 3rd party app to deal with them,
although that can help.

what changed is that Apples newer OS’s HIDE the Library folder from you.
to get there, go the the finder’s menu bar, Go Menu, and hold OPTION. The Library will then be revealed. navigate to:
Home Folder / Library / Preferences / FInal Cut Pro User Data

i like to put the User Data folder into my finder window’s side=bar.
makes it dead easy to get there again.
remember when you trash your prefs they will revert to default, and you will have to re-build them.
once you have done that, make a back up.

look into Digital Rebellion’s Preference Manager.
i dont use it, but lots do.

which makes me realise that the usual FCP weird-fix has not been mentioned yet…
have you trashed your preferences?
if not, i’d advise it.

hmm, weird.

so the levels are fine when you play in the timeline, but jumping up and down in your exports?
is your sequence set to a simple stereo output? (check the sequence’s settings, Audio Outputs tab)

maybe try an audio mix-down.
check your timeline after you do that, and if OK, try another export.

also,, what format are the music files?

MP3 or AAC will cause weird unpredictable problems in FCP 7 and under,
they have to be converted to AIFF or WAV formats.

your best bet, i’d say is to use the Broadcast Safe filter.
3-way Colour Correction won’t always be able to deal with those super-hot spots without severely darkening the rest of the frame.
but the Broadcast Safe will simply clamp them down.

it wont ALWAYS work, but it’s pretty easy to give it a go.
