the speed issue is that you have blending turned on.
you are seeing two similar frames blended together.

you need to select each speed modified clip, open the speed dialogue (Apple J) and de-select blending.
there’s no simple way to turn do this in bulk, gotta do it one by one.

the other issue is what’s with the H264 sequence settings?
h264 media in FCP7 is asking for trouble.

is your footage really 24fps?

a common sync issue in FCP has to do with your sequence setting.
if you have the wrong sequence seeing when you import your audio it can go out of sync

open your A/V settings (under the final cut pro menu)
make sure your selected sequence setting has the correct frame rate.
it has to be ticked, not just selected for it to be active.

RE-IMPORT your audio,
and try again.

as Shane says, you’d be better off working in an app that can handle the native camera formats,
Premiere, or FCPX
(you can use your current Compressor to make the DVDs)

FCP7 really requires you to work with ProRes,
and your LT is as small as you can get without losing quality.

you could try down-scaling your rushes as you transcode to Pro res.
that’ll take longer, and wouldn’t be wise, i’d say.
it’s smart to be HD “future” proof (“now” proof, really!)

Down-scalng on transcode would take longer, too,
especially for the best results.
you can test it, of course.

you could try an “off-line / on-line” process, where you work with a smaller file size while you edit,
then either reconnect to or recapture higher res versions,
but really it’s a pain!
you don’t want to do it.
it would take a lot longer, and is just not needed these days

PERFORMANCE
2 streams of LT should be very do-able, what sort of drives are you using?
FW800 should be do-able,
but USB3 or Thunderbolt would be better.

of course a lot would depend on the background:
moving trees, running water would make it harder.
especially as in an empty frame there is no “smoke and mirrors” to distract the gaze.

painting the person OUT before the truck enters frame might be a better approach.
especially if the truck kicks up some dust or leaves some sort of wake.

there doesn’t seem to be too much wrong with the original, except that the subtitles are burnt in.
if the source had been a DVD, that may have been fixable, but with DIgibeta…

you still haven shown us your current sequence settings
i think that what’s gone “wrong” is that you are working in an HD sequence.

look at your current sequence’s settings, and report back.
a screen grab would be best.

also, can i ask what it is you are planing on delivering?

are these MP3s, or AACs?
FCP doesn’t like them, you need to convert to AIFF or WAV before you use in FCP.

or report more on them?

the quicktime grab you posted was closer to HD size (1920×1080)
maybe you are cutting in an HD sequence.
