I’ve seen people cut music videos by stacking every take one on top of the other
nothing wrong with that, it’s good,
but then to “de-activate” a part they don’t want, they’ll blade it and drag the opacity down.this acutely keeps the clip active, and i think is a drag on the system,
best way IMO would be to “un-enable” that selection with Control B.just a thought

“I also wonder why would one use MPEG streamclip, when FCP does a good job too?”
there are lots of ways to recompress footage.
MPeg Stream Clip and Compressor give you more options, plus Compressor can, if set up properly, access more processing power from your computer/s, and work very quickly.using FCP theres no way to simply by-pass the frame-rate , or to use the existing one,
you may permanently damage your clips by doing this.
i woud recommend AGAINST using FCP for this.(The only thing I find strange is after having converted the clip, and looking at the settings, it says 29,79 – not 30)
I find that strange because the codec clearly says 30p. Anyone has clarity on that?2 possibilities:
1. does it say 29.79 or 29.97?
29.7 is a common frame rate, and maybe your iphone is showing at that.
30p is probably a shorthand way to saying 29.97.I’m no export here, as i live in PAL land, and don’t have to deal with such frame-rates,
but i know that 24p is shorthand for 23.9762. if it really is 29.79, then i guess it’s a by-product of the weird frame rate iPhone shoots at.
you’re probably best running those clips though CinemaTools to conform their frame rates back to a true 30fps.
if you’ve only got a few clips, just drag them onto ht CinemaTOols icon, and when they open, click the “Conform” button lower right.
if there are lots, then open CT. When it asks what you want to do, hit continue, then escape from the Open Database window,
then use the Batch Conform command from under the File Menu,
navigate to your clips and click on any one.and in future get one of those apps that makes iPhone shot at a more respectable frame-rate!

a few things to check:
1. are you altering the frame rate when you convert in Mpeg Streamclip?
probably not, it defaults to the existing frame rate, i think2. FCP has a drifting sync issue.
you need to set you sequence pre-set to match the frame-rate your are working at.
do this in the Audio/Video Settings (found under the Final Cut Pro Menu)
if you are working at 30fs, turn you need to chose a sequence preset that is 30fps.
as there ISNT one, you’ll have to create one.if your sequence preset has been set to 29.97
then when you import audio it takes on that frame rate, and can drift out of sync with your 30fps video.fingers crossed that’s al it is 🙂

ok i get that your’e using “Create Multiclip Sequence” to get your pic and sound in sync.
it does make things a bit complicated
but i think your problems may well stem from the rest of your workflow which is even more complicated!main issue is how to turn the multiclips back into non-multi *within* FCP
there’s 2 ways: match frame and edit back, or via the media manager
MATCH FRAME & EDIT
in your multiclip sequence, turn off all your audio tracks (green buttons)
park on the start of your first video clip,
match frame into the viewer (f) and edit back into the timeline (F10)
check your target tracks first obviously!jump to the next clip (down arrow) and do it again,
etc, etcthen do the same for sound,
turn your audio tracks back on, turn off all video tracks, ALSO turn off all video Auto Select (Command+Keypad Zero… i think that’s a dealt and no one of mine)
f, F10, etcif you have hundreds of clips this can be time consuming, so you can either automate it with QuicKeys or similar,
or use the media manager.MEDIA MANAGER
select the Multiclip sequence and open Media MAnager
chose CREATE OFFLINE,
set sequences to your preferred settings
DONT delete unused
UN-CHECK include multi clip angleswhen your new project opens,
the audio will probably be on-line, but the video will be offline (it should be if it has reel#s… if it isn’t offline that’s a worry)
so re-connect the videonow you are ready to go thru the timeline linking the clips as Shane says
select each pair of Video and Audio, and Command L to link them.
when done, copy all into a new bini guess you should check sync before you link them all,
and then maybe link and copy a few to a bin, and then check sun on those clips again before proceeding.hope that helps,

re-conforming DAW work to your new edit
most tools that do this compare 2 ELDs2:
puling used shots.
don’t ask me why, but a facility recently told me that an EDL was better for pulling the media needed for a conform.
the XML was of course better for the conform itself.nick

“Resolve’s was actually a little better tha mMorphCut”
Hi Bret,
i was curious as i hadn’t heard of Resolve’s version till now,
but when i googled it this came up:Resolve smooth cut vs. mMorphCut
by Bret Williams on Oct 22, 2015 at 1:44:19 pm
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/40144
“mMorphCut handled the more complicated ones much better. SmoothCut came out closer to a dissolve on a few”so has resolve gotten better?

the free version of resolve (it’s not called “Lite” anymore, by the way) is limited to UHD frame sizes.
that’s nearly 4k, but not quite.
if your 4k is actually UHD (double HD, or 3840 or 2160) then resolve will workgetting a project from any one platform to any other will always require checking and fixing of possible errors.
Resolve is probably more similar to FCP7 than FCPX.
mainly, it has tracks, and FCPX does not.FCPX may have a steeper learning curve (if you’re used to tradition NLEs),
however the people who clime that curve, say it’s wonderful when you get there.nick

are you sure this is the best way forward?
exporting an OMF with levels and transitions would give your sound mixer everything in your timeline with the option of handles on every edit
alsot it DOESN’T bake in any EQ and reverb you may have done, letting them do a better job.
it’s generally preferred.

I’m pretty sure you’d have to actually open the project to export an AAFnick
