yeah, the question would be: how did you do your export?
as Dave says you should do a simple export as quicktime movie,
and leave the drop down menu set to the default “Current Settings”

FCP’s scaling is not the best.
you would best off exporting your NTSC sequence,
and then working with that export to up-scale it to your new format.

i’d try importing it again, if you can.

if you don’t still have the card, then these files are your masters, so you can add whatever TC you want to them.

are you using mp.3 audio?
or H.264 video?

those formats are unstable in FCP7 and under,
and need to be converted to AIFF or WAV of audio, or ProRes for video

sometimes even AIFF or WAV can be trouble if you are using 44.1Khz files in a 48k sequence
again, converting to your sequence settings will fix the problems

or have you rendered your timeline or done an audio mix-down?

sometimes the renders come out wrong, with shifted content.
deleting your renders (Tools Menu > render Manager)can get you back to normal,
but if it keeps happening , look into your audio format as described above,
or trash your FCP preferences.

well then i guess i mostly answered this in the first reply.

although I’m still not sure what you’re trying achieve… you want to sync multiple video and audio files in ProTools… why?

anyway as i said you can easily write TC into aProRes file, it should have a TC track already, you just have to write a custom TC

if it doesn’t have a TC track (if the fields are not accessible in the Modify Timecode window.
then you either:
1.click on the Source TC check box in the Modify Timecode window.
2. in the brewer, find the reel column and write in a reel#
you can do one clip, then select all, and right click in the reel column that new reel# and chose to apply it to all the clips,
so this can be faster, if your;e OK about all reels being the same.

but as i say this might not work with your audio.
you’d have to test it.

OR as said export the audio as a QuickTime movie, audio only

but then why not export your synced clips from FCP as Quicktime movies with audio.
you can import them into ProTools
OR
sync your clips in FCP, and export the entire timeline as ONE Quicktime Movie.

or sync your clips in RESOLVE,
export an AAF, and open it in ProTools.

if you log and transfer the DSLR files, then you might get TC that relates to the time-stamp of the files.
not sure, it’s years since i did that.

1st of you’d need to convert your DSLR footage to ProRes (H264 wont work well in FCP at all)
then its easy to assign TC to the video clips

you open the clip into the viewer, and goto Modify Menu > Timecode
if you are doing a lot of this, create a shortcut for it.

assigning TC to audio is trickier, and generally doesn’t work, as the simpler audio formats like AIFF and WAV don’t hold it
BWAV does, but I’m not sure how you’d convert to that format (maybe Wave Agent, but I’m not sure)
you can export audio from an FCP timeline as an audio only QuickTime Movie, and that can hold TC,
but ProTools might not read it.

i’m not sure Audio TC so essential for your workflow, but then I’m not exactly sure what you want to achieve

i’m thinking that when say “Burnt in” you don’t actually want the TC burnt in to the image,
but rather written into the file.
is that correct?
