Haha, no pressing deadline.
It’s a DVCPRO HD 720 Project and Timeline with HDV 1080i footage in it. I’m doing the P2 Export to convert it to 720p.
We have a Matrox RT.X2 and for whatever reason, the Export to Panasonic P2 is grayed out completely while not in an Adobe editing mode.
If I can get all of my assets the same type (720p in this case), the RT.X2 can allow real-time editing much better.

Well, I’m just doing this to convert HDV, so doing an Export without HDV isn’t an option.
Are you saying I should render the work area before I do the Export to P2? Doesn’t the Export to P2 do the same thing at the same time? If I wait the time for the Render Work Area to complete, does this speed up the Export to P2?

Well yeah, I know what it’s for, but it just doesn’t like Adobe made it very flexible. For instance, not every video editor is web savvy and will be the one deciding on the URL for the video.. and this HAS to be entered during the encoding process. And, if the filename changes… no fixing it.
It also doesn’t warn you that you have to make the file name in the save dialog the same as what you entered in the URL field.
So, it’s not like the editor can give the PDF and the video to a webmaster to finalize for the web.
OR, I think Clip Notes should have the option ask the viewer for a URL when the PDF is opened. Or perhaps be able to have a list of files that load in the single PDF, like bookmarks. Right now, a dozen clips means a dozen PDFs. And for both locally played files and streamed, you need two sets of PDFs.
I did fine the template PDF.. Hopefully Adobe will expand on this and provide instructions or ways for us to customize that template. I could try with Illustrator, but haven’t yet.

What do you mean by “overcranked” footage. I think I found a fix.. I have to copy the affected CONTENTS folders back to an empty FS100 and then use the Repair Clip function for each and every clip. Sometimes, this fixes the clips, and others it fixes just some. In my last experiment, running the Repair Clip about 4 times (with Organize P2) between each fixed it. I don’t know what it’s doing.. but Repair Disk didn’t work.
This PC has Vista on it, so I can’t use the Organizer. After several discussions with Panasonic Tech Support, none of the techs recommended P2 Organizer over the Viewer…

What I was getting at was the media transfer rate. I found it on Wikipedia. It says it has a maximum of 640 Mbit/s. This is good to know. This tells me that, theoretically, it makes no improvement putting a card in a laptop directly than it does using a FW800 card reader. It probably makes little difference using FW800 over FW400, and so on. Yes, I know that there are bus speeds to consider (as buses never perform at their specified speeds).
Doing the math, it would take at LEAST 3.5 minutes to copy a 16GB card. That doesn’t sound realistic at all.
Sorry for my ignorance here. I’ve only had the opportunity to work with P2 media and the HPX-500 once, on a one day rental. We have a gig coming up in a couple weeks and I’d like to know my best workflow.
