I was searching for the answer to this problem this afternoon after creating favorites for sound bites within a clip for a single camera clip. I’m working off PR LT transcode from r3d that’s uploaded remotely and subsequently downloaded here. The day after I favorite the single camera clip I learn there was a b cam (red as well) darn if I multicam the A / B together I lose all my favorites for the sound bites. So here is my solution using Sync n Link to retain my metadata.
Choose my Acam (favorites) & Bcam export -> XML
import XML into Sync n Link
name Synchronized clip using “video”
add “Video” metadata to synchronized clip
no trim
enable make Multicams “instead of” Synchronized clips.
then “Sync Clips…”
Imported to FCPX and perfect! all favorites “metadata” intact.
Imagine this could work with Frame.io imported notes as well. I think you could drag your Frame.io notes into your project and then highlight your notes and corresponding clip do the same thing and create one synchronized clip. I haven’t tested this out yet, but typically I would create a multicam interview with two angles and then add another blank angle and insert the Frame.io captions in there and make the favorite for the multicam that way by copying and pasting.
