i briefly searched the forums on this topic too.

My question to this is why, after buying for my 2010
imac w/ mini output port, can my mac output full 1080p
through a HDMI adaptor as a “second monitor” but can’t
route after effects video preview through the same channels??

It may not be the most professional way to output this signal
but it would do the trick for me. All i want is the ability
to see what I’m working on as its own entity on my HDTV.
Everyone in the forums is talking about buying black magic
cards… which seems like an outdated solution since there
have been HDMI outputs directly on laptops! For instance
    i have a Pc laptop, a cheap-o, runs perfect 1080p signal through
an HDMI port, but after effects cant see it?!?!?!

I joined king and country almost a year ago. They used a multitude of ways to achieve this, but the main star technique is called camera mapping. An example of camera mapping would be to basically make a 3D sphere and “project” a still image of a basketball on to that sphere. You would then have the illusion of depth when moving your camera within a 3D application such as Cinema 4D.
