This post seems to say that you need to install a later version of FCP to install the extra quicktime components to play…..

How has this happened?!
I’m sorry for wasting everybody’s time. But, although I seem to have FCP 6.0 on the other computer, I have 6.0.6 on the old one. I don’t know how this happened (I only have one copy of FCP!)
How did I update FCP on this one to fcp 6.0.6?! It’s an academic version…

I only installed Calibrated because I was having this issue. And as far as I can tell, I don’t have Calibrated installed on the first computer (I’ve searched for “calibrated”, and it doesn’t come up). The only thing that Calibrated did when I installed it on the new computer was to make quicktime recognise the XDCAM files. In other words, Quicktime was not able to read the XDCAM files before installing Calibrated, regardless of FCP. Surely that’s not supposed to happen…
Other things I have on these computers — perian and Apple QMaster. Can’t see how that would affect it.

This thread is my issue. But I don’t have the option to update FCP. And I’m not in England to reinstall what I already have.

Thanks, I will look into archives. Especially after I’ve split these videos up.
PROBLEM: I thought this was a good method, but it seems to be messing up for some reason. I have cut each file into about 10-15 shorter subclips. I use media manager to create new files of the sub clips. I thought that had worked for the first video. But for the second, it only created half the files, at random, and the durations of these new files did not match the durations shown in fcp. In other words, it had failed to work. Looking back at the first video again, I noticed that in a couple of movies, the durations had changed.
In other words, FCP doesn’t seem to be able to handle the big file sizes, or cutting large files down into lots of smaller ones.
So, at the moment I’m going back to the original movies, and using MPEG Streamclip I’m exporting selected areas of the videos. This is going to take me a long time (because that’s not a batch method). Any suggestions?
