Thanks very much to everyone who offered advice on this flickering issue. Rainer, I ended up doing exactly what you said, about .7 on the gaussian blur and that seemed to work best. Again I appreciated everyone’s input on this.

I really appreciate these suggestions Nick, and you taking the time. I’m going to try them now. Thanks very much again and I’ll let you and everyone know how it goes.

Thanks Andrew. To answer your questions, I’m working in an SD sequence at a rate of 29.97 using the codec (I believe) Apple ProRes 422. I also believe the sequence is progressive not interlaced, although I can’t tell when I look at the sequence settings, sorry. (If there’s a default in FCP7, that’s what it is.) During editing, I’m looking at the sequence in the canvas window at 100 % on a computer monitor, although I’ve been exporting to Compressor and then putting the movie on a DVD to watch on a TV screen, and that’s where I really notice the flickering.
Please let me know if you, or anyone else, have any idea what might be causing this. I need to finish my project today so I’m really hoping to solve this.
    Thanks again, Neil

Much appreciated, Sitruc! I can’t thank you enough for such thorough, helpful advice. I want to play around with it more, based on your guidance, but for the moment I adjusted the canvas size and it worked like a charm. Thank you again, and thanks also very much for the kind words.

I see now, thanks Sitruc! So I have the logo in the page now, and am just trying to create space between my headshot and the logo. If you go to the page, you should see what I’m talking about. Any quick advice there? I promise that’s the last question. Thanks very much again either way.

I really appreciate this response, Siturc! Extremely helpful, and I will take your advice and try to get comfortable working directly in HTML. I had just one question right now, about getting the logo graphic in there, before I figure out how to adjust the size etc. You mentioned I should paste my ‘logo html.’ What does that mean exactly? Does that mean I need to FTP the image file itself to the Web server, then copy the URL from that uploaded file? Or something else?
    Much appreciated again,
    Neil

  • That is a big help, thank you Steve.

Thanks a lot Jon, and let me try to provide that info, or at least some of it. Unfortunately there may be a few gaps I will try to fill! There was an outside video production company my school used to provide all the equipment, several big studio-style cameras that were arranged around the auditorium, and the capture files they provided to us were Quicktimes. I’m not sure about the camera settings. I will try to get that info from my supervisor, who I think will know those answers, as soon as possible. Thanks again for the response and just let me know if you or anyone else has any thoughts in the interim.

Thanks a lot, Rafael. I will do that. May I just ask, what codec would you advise using to make a 720X480 SD sequence look as good as possible? Especially to be viewed online.
