OK, but sequence flavors don’t include being able to choose between WAV or AIF, do they? I mean, all you get to choose is the bit depth and the sample rate. And in film sound we work with 48KHz WAVs. So the question was if any conversion is going on, not of sample rate, but of the sound format (or as someone else put it, “wrapper”, as both are PCM files).

Hmm… could not get that to work on my laptop (have FCP 5 still on here), but will try at work tomorrow with 6.0.2. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oops, I should have specified that I wasn’t talking about WAVs at 44.1 vs AIFs at 48. In my case both are at 48. The format is independent of the sample rate.

I got this answered in a different forum–someone said that FCP will just point to the original file without altering it (as usual). It doesn’t do a real-time conversion by putting in a the file in a sequence either, though. WAVs stay WAVs and AIFs stay AIFs. That makes sense to me, but the sound guy swears FCP will read the WAVS but convert them on ingest for use in sequences. I guess he’s talking about a sort of real-time conversion, but until I get evidence to the contrary, I don’t believe it.

    Hi,

Though the sync part of your problem was solved, and of course wasn’t related to the drop/non drop issue, I thought I would address how you can change your timecode from drop frame to non drop frame and vice versa. You have to do it one audio clip at a time, so it’s a pain, but in case you ever want to do it:

    1. Select the audio clip the the browser.
    2. Go to Modify > Timecode
    3. Check “source” if you want to modify the actual media, or “auxilliary” if you want to add auxilliary timecode and leave the media untouched.
    4. In the drop down menu, choose non drop or drop frame audio.

You can also assign a reel name to your audio this way.
