    That was easy, thanks Michael!

Thanks for the feedback guys, but again, I’m trying to put Avid through multiple test so I can see if I want to purchase it or not. I already have FCP and Premiere so that’s not really the point here. I’m sure most Avid editors don’t just switch to another NLE when they’re given random phone footage.

I’m going to throw some RED footage into the mix next to see how that performs.

Thanks for your response Shane. Now, your opinion on what’s right and wrong as far as shooting is pretty irrelevant. The footage I get is the footage I get.

That is a bummer that I can only use footage that has “proper TV dimensions.” I can import whatever I want into FCP or Premiere. I wonder why Avid can’t handle alternate ratios… I import still images fine that are an assortment of dimensions.

I guess I’ll just mark that one up as a ‘con’ for Avid and bring these clips into AE for export.

    Thanks again!

Okay. Well I can’t author the DVD through Encore, because I don’t have the control I need for my menus. I guess I’ll see if I can export the embedded chapter markers from Encore.

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, there was a third file that I believe was the chapter markers and I was not able to bring that into DVD SP. Maybe Encore will combine the M2V file with the chapter markers? I hope so. That would be a real drag if I’m unable to create chapter markers with Premiere..

Yeah, if Encore is supposed to preserve the chapter markers, I’ll give that a shot. I’m at a FCP suite today, but I’ll try Encore tonight and will let you know if that worked.

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I am designating the markers as chapter markers in premiere, but I am not using encore. I simply am exporting from Premiere with my DVD settings.

January 9, 2013 at 2:54 pm in reply to: CATDV and StorageDNA ?

I’m really torn on which way to go on this. StorageDNA sounds great, and I love that they have Mac versions, like the M100. I really just need something basic. But Cache-A has so many more reviews and have been around for a lot longer. Also, it’s been hard to get a quote from somebody interested in dealing Storage DNA with CatDV for some reason.

My head says StorageDNA but sales reps keep telling me Cache-A.

Bryson, do you know of any sellers in Michigan who would be knowledgeable with CatDV and Storage DNA?

Ha, apparently not very intuitive, since nobody here’s seen that thing. Thanks a lot, this Web Client is becoming way more useful than I originally thought it was!

June 21, 2012 at 3:43 pm in reply to: Web client custom field carry-over

I have set up my user defined fields so they display in Cat DV and on the Web Client. The labels all carry over but not all the data is carried over. Certain fields are left empty even if I fill them out in CatDV.

I’ve attached a couple screen shots from the CatDV Catalog, and the same clip on the Web Client. The one with all the fields populated is CatDV. You will notice certain fields are not populated on the Web Client. For example, Producer. Any suggestions as to why this might be?

Is there a way to make Worker Node and Compressor work together so I can trigger my proxies within CatDV, the proxies will be made in Compressor and the target file path will be created from Worker Node?

We told all our editors CatDV wouldn’t slow them down, and proxies could be made by changing the status to ‘Make Proxy’. We’re realizing now that worker node cannot keep up with the amount of footage we are throwing at it, so we are now running compressor over night to try and catch up. It would be nice to automate that, but is this possible? Compressor is a pain in the butt because I have to manually duplicate the file path, and Compressor changes the file name, so I have to manually change it back.
