Thanks Ty. Good solutions there. I think the MM-1 will do just the trick. Boom op can monitor and make on the fly adjustment. . . send the signal to the camera and camera op monitors the audio into the camera. Perfect.

    Thanks,

November 3, 2011 at 8:35 pm in reply to: compression stalling out when trying to burn blu-ray

Alright, got that figured out. Thanks. Unfortunately now it failed saying “Volume’s file size limit exceeded” I have the average bit rate set at 22 and max at 30 and that says it should fit 132 minutes and my video is 105 minutes? Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Nate

Thanks. So if I understand correctly… export the sequence to a quicktime file then send that file to compressor? I don’t see a Blu-ray option in compressor (version 3.5.3) am I missing something? The next question I have is how do I author the Blu-ray from Compressor? I thought the only way was to send right from FCP using the “Share” menu.

    I appreciate your help greatly!

April 22, 2011 at 1:55 pm in reply to: EX1 SDI out issues

I remember switching the video output on and off a few times and that didn’t do it. 100% sure I was using the SDI out the back of the camera, not component out the side. I’m wondering about that firmwear update. I bought the camera used with 100hrs on it and the guy said that he had the “latest” update but I cant find a way to check on the camera? Any ideas how to check that? I also have problems from time to time when using a HDSC card and adaptor. During shooting it will randomly, without warning, stop recording and I get the “media needs to be restored message.” And thats with a class 10 Transcend card and normal shooting (720p, 30) not over/undercranking. Seems that might tend to be a firmwear issue as well?

    Thanks!

Ever find anything out with getting the preview window working? I’m having the same issue. . . I’d love to be able to set a few in’s and out’s on the clips.

    thanks,

Problem solved. after hours of trial and error randomly changing compression setting it turns out that the key frame interval needs to be set to 30. It is set at 15 on the compressor template.

    thanks everyone for your help.

Can you fill me in on the different “flavors” of an mpeg4 that you mentioned? There is only one mpeg4 template in Compressor. I have copied it and explored different bit rates and frame rates but the video is still not synced up with the audio (video is slow and choppy). Any other suggestions to make a file that can be played from most computers?

    thanks so much,
    Nate

I’m trying to make a stand alone mpeg4 file and save it to a disk (DVD-R). The problem is occuring though right after the QT file is compressed. I made an m2v file just to see if a standard dvd would work and it did. For some reason its just when I try to put it into an mpeg4 format.

I’m working remotely and my imac cant be connected to the web to copy the image of the inspector but here is where I am at:

    File Format- mpeg4
    extension- mpeg4
    allow job segmenting- checked
    Video enabled- checked
    ISMA profile- basic
    Frame Rate- 29.97
    Keyframe interval- 15
    Bit Rate- medium vbr

I have been experimenting with different combinations of Bit Rate and frame rate but that does not seem to be helping.

    Thanks again,
    Nate

I filled in the gaps with a slugs, exported to QT directly from FCP using current setting. That looks fine. Then tried the mp4 template in compressor and its still not in sync. What appears to be happening is the video is playing slower (slightly jumpy) than the audio. Audio sounds fine. The frame rate in the mp4 template is at 29.9 which is how it was shot. I also tried the H.264 QT template and that looks great but that file is to big to go on a SD DVD. AAHH

Again, when I used the mpeg4 template with SD video it was fine. . . does this have something to do with the fact that I’m in HD 422 prores? Would changing my sequence setting help or would that not matter because the footage was captured in 422 prores? Also, you all have mentioned about the many mpeg4 “flavors” there is only one mpeg4 format in compressor?

Thanks so much for all your time and help,

    Nate
