Yeah, the “Expand Luminance For Computer Displays” setting isn’t doing it for me on MC 6 either. I understand that the Source/Record monitors aren’t meant to be a pristine, grade-worthy reference, I just want something more in the ballpark of reality.

I guess it just doesn’t seem unreasonable to me to want to be able to chose whether I see the image as it’s encoded or as it will be displayed. In essence, I just want to be able to toggle between two of the most conventional LUTs.

I just successfully did a fast import of ProRes 422 (not HQ) with the exact import settings from your screen shot. The ProRes MOV files were created in After Effects CS 4 and were 1080p at 23.976 fps, the same settings as my Avid project.

The only thing I can think to suggest is that you double check that the frame size and frame rates of your MOV and Avid project match (including any interlacing that might have been applied to your AE render).

I just did an AAF export where I consolidated to a folder and transcoded to DNxHD. I moved the resulting Avid MediaFiles folder into my DaVinci Media Pool folder and then imported the AAF. Everything seems to be working.

THANK YOU! This is improving my render performance significantly.

So, what’s the way to determine the optimal ram settings for AE? I have 10 GB of ram, but if there was a general rule of thumb, I’d be glad to know it.

I’m getting 2.1-2.4 GB of RAM for each of three aeselflink processes plus about 1.85 GB of RAM for the actual After Effects process. I don’t know what those usage numbers suggest, but I like your guess. The System Memory tab of Activity Monitor is showing the VM size as 210+ GB, so maybe you’re right.

I understand that, but I have not specified anything on the system drive. To quote my original post, “I have my disc cache set to be in a folder on my RAID” and I am rendering “compositions with source media on the RAID to an output location on the RAID.” Why would AE need to write to my system drive when I have not specified any folder on the system drive for any part of the process?
