    Bob and Michael,

Thanks so much for your insight. Grrr, this is one of the reasons we are phasing out Avids. I’m building a new studio and want to put a couple of Avids through the new studio to work on legacy projects and when I need to access our massive ripomatic library. I’m assuming that shrink wrapped new versions sold on e-bay are fine. Would there be any licensing issues in that case?

    Thanks again,

    Nathan

Thanks Mark. It looks like it would definitely do the job, I’ll let you know what I think after I’ve tested it out (may take a little while). It’s one ugly piece of interface, but if it gets it done, hey.

…I should mention what I’m looking for in this. Software that integrates inventory (data and physical) management (using bar codes and a handheld scanner for physical), a contacts database, a project database, project scheduling and project billing. It should also work on OSX Leopard.

    Thanks again,

    Nathan

PS is anyone using Studio Manager 9 or Creative Manager Pro?

File Maker Pro is indeed great software, and has been the backbone of my last (outdated) inventory / production management software. However, to employ a developer to build it for you is too expensive for me at this moment. With almost every post house using Final Maker Pro for this purpose, I was hoping to find a developer who has packed a built system to sell.

I’m in the midst of building a new studio, working on three simultaneous projects and making the transition from Avid to FCP, I can’t even find time to sleep, let alone, learn (however simple) File Maker Pro and build an inventory / scheduling database.

This was a large point of debate for us. I’m really hoping that this product is stable. I prefer the work flow of the Pro Rez outboard processing. I feel that since you have to choose a codec, might as well keep it consistent through the house. And ProRez seems to be a great choice. The other big issue is that the IO HD has all the inputs and outputs necessary. I don’t like that the Kona 3 has limited outputs, requiring D to A’ and distribution amplifyers… It seems that in a professional environment, it might make quick trouble shooting overly complicated.

Thanks for your input. I’m gonna take a long hard look at the IO-HD option and follow the many postings on it here.
