[MadMac66] “CAD what a nightmare, you’d think this day and age it would a bit easier”

No, a wrong assumption on your part. CAD and 3D animation have a completely different focus and thus employ different methodologies. Neither directly relates to the other and just like you screaming at the CAD file you received, CAD people hate 3D artists when they need to build an actual working design based on their work. ;O)

Put whatever you want to be your shine/ glint/ glare on a separate layer top of your other layer and use blendmodes like add, multiply, screen and overlay. You may wish to add some nice image somewhere inbetween the stack and distort it to convey the illusion of something actually reflecting. The key to successs is to animate the position of your reflection elements whenever your main layer moves as reflections are merely dependent on the glancing angle.

Like the others suggested – change the brand. Fuji are not particularly reliable. We use Verbatim and TDK all the time without problems. And yeah, get yourself inkjet printable raw media and stay away from the stickers. Under today’s cost pressure for the manufacturers, the sealing layers are so thin, you can be certain to damage it this way or warp your disc.

[Mister T.] “Does anybody knows how to make this kind of an effect in AE?”

No. That’s very clearly 3D-animation. Camera-projected textures on 3D objects with some cloth dynamics.

[balvarez] “is it even possible to render out higher DPI in after effects for print purposes ?”

No. AE internally always assumes 72 dpi and there is no way to change that. Rebuilding your comp at a much larger size is the only option. But I concur with you: They get paid for doing the posters or whatever, so they better be the ones doing it.

Well, if photographic techniques fail, you can always use the Echo effect or particle trails nailed to the footage with motion tracking (which is probably more efficient, anyways)

Not that I know of. Technically you are setting a pause/ freeze frame command from within the stream itself (similar to enforced subtitles). Since Encore does not support any of these more advanced features, it may be out of the game.

Like Brian said – can be easily done by nesting and cloning a nested comp and recycling it over and over, varying rotation and animation timing (or with expressions, of course).

March 5, 2007 at 7:33 pm in reply to: DVD – Game hmmmm…I wonder how to do this……

Not with Encore you don’t. What you are trying to do requires massive scripting which is only doable in Scenarist, DVD Studio Pro and DVDLab. Basically you would use different sub-pictures and button sets and make them “live” depending on a previous choice. Within the button sets, everything would more or less have a fixed routing, so your game would always take the same route after only a few cycles. In your your scenario have far too many cards to make it believable. Even if you only had 9 or less, it would be pretty predictable after a while and not appear random at all. Compared to the effort required it’s simply not worth the time required to implement it in the first place. If I were you, I’d ditch the idea.

Use the Wrap deformer, but nor on the ExtrudeNURBS. Apply it to the original Spline. Set the Spline type to “subdivided” to get proper results.
