    Definitely not. Creating good fonts is one of the more demanding tasks and with millions of fonts already out there, both free and commercial, there isn’t a need for it most of the time. Of course it happens that every now and then a bit manual fiddling is required by adjusting font based shapes in Illustrator (I for instance find myself quite often creating special characters which are not contained in many free fonts or dingbats), but that’s how far it goes. There is no shame in using “classic” fonts – as funny as this sounds, in many cases they still look best simply because they have been created in an age when balanced fonts and good type design were much more widespread than these days. So unless you want to stand out of the crowd, use whatever makes you happy.

    December 4, 2005 at 9:39 am in reply to: Supported features for SWF export

    [Adrian Germain] “If i have expressions, time remaping,null with slider effect,nested compositions, still can I export vectorial the composition to swf?”

    No, definitely not. It will all become one big bitmap based SWF file. Vector output only works properly if the elements are placed in the main comp. Even so, since you are using all the fancies, it wouldn’t necessarily have worked, either. You could of course wait a while until AE 7 comes out and then export to FLV…. ;-).

    If you don’t mind my observation: What you are describing sounds like overkill for a file that is supposed to become a Flash file to be used on the web. Looks like you are using a project that has been used for some broadcast stuff already. You should consider re-building the project with all the limitations for web output in mind or “do it right” from the start the next time you work on such a project.

    December 2, 2005 at 7:03 am in reply to: 14 hour rendering…what are my options?

    [Ben Insler] “I have to say if you’re just doing still photo moves, 14 hours does sound long to me. My first reaction is to make sure that you set the IN and OUT points of each layer to the area only where the layer needs to be visible, so that by the end of the 9 minutes After Effects isn’t for some reason trying to comp together 400 stills that are hidden anyway behind the top one.”

    That’s not going to help anything when using the 3D renderer. It simply does not this way. Anyway, the render times are quite normal with the 3D renderer, even more so when using the Advanced 3D option. There isn’t much you can do about it. Even upgrading the system won’t do any good (it’s a bit weak on RAM). The only option would be using multiple machines to render.

    Yepp, try RSMB or similar tools. If you’re not looking for excessive trails, you might even consider CC Force Motionblur which comes free with the Professional version of AE.

    Try this:

    my_scale=thisComp.height/height*100;

    Animate a cycle of blinking and then apply “loopOut(cycle,0);” to the parameter.

    [sascha1979] “further i need a digital clock with hours minutes seconds and day… its not possible to do this with the effect numbers isnt it?”

    Oh no, you’re dead wrong. It is doable. You just need multiple layers with the effect. There is no lazy man’s way to achieve what you describe. You have to invest some work in it. There is no magic plugin that will do it for you and you should get used to that.
