[Eric Nicastro] “Cost is not so much an issue.”

If cost isn’t an issue, I would buy a Smoke. I have worked on Avids, FCP and Smoke, and I think the Smoke is the best complete package if cost is not an issue.
BUT, i’ll assume you mean the cost difference between AVID and FCP isn’t an issue. In that case, I would go with FCP. Why? Because, they are relatively close in terms of capability, but $7k is a nice chunk of change that you can’t really ignore.

I really hope Avid turns it around, and forces Apple to really take a look at all their “pro” apps. Its coming on 2 years since the last major release for FCS. Shake has been EOL for awhile, Color still need some tweaks, FCP isn’t quite “pro”, etc.

This is the first year I don’t have NAB by now…

I see that Apple and Avid will both be a no-show again.

I guess I’ll wait and see what Autodesk has planned before I make any commitment.

Lol 7 months of revisions? I hope you get paid for those…

We had a young editor here working on a no budget project for a director for over 14 months!!!! Revision after revision. Finally they cut him off.

Thats why its good to have some sort of relationship with your competitors, and others who work in your industry in your area. Obviously, big markets like NY and LA are the perfect place for grinders to go from place to place burning people, since the industry is so big, its almost impossible to know everyone.

[johnsabbath d’urzo] “what legal term on the contract or invoice do i put down for c.o.d? on future jobs with this guy.”

LOL… After all the previous posts, you are still worried about future jobs with him…

He’s going to grind you and grind you until you pop. You either put your foot down now, or give up and admit he owns you.

EDIT: After looking at your previous topics, I really hope this isnt the same client. I have a bad feeling that this is the same client, and he’s still stringing you along. I predict next month we will see another post about how he REALLY owes you money, and how you have to work with him so he will start to pay you the money he owes you.
I do mean sound harsh. He will not change unless you make him change. That won’t happen until you change your behavior. You may think you are doing good by keeping busy with work, but the truth is you are in a dead end situation, and you have to stop.
I truly hope we don’t hear about this client again.

Well if you repeat it often enough, and loud enough, most people will believe it.

  • I know this is different for all markets, but in my circle in the LA area it goes like this:

Company A puts you on hold for a day.
Company B calls and asks if they can put you on hold for the same day.
You inform Company A that someone else wants you on the day that have you on hold. Company A has the option to “buy” your time, or give up their hold to Company B.
Now in the case when someone buys your time and then can no longer use it, you try and find other work to get them off the hook.

I think you have been more then fair, and accommodating to these people. And, it goes to show that even people you work with for a long time might have different ideas about what you think are common business practices. I think it’s a good idea to be up front and clear about cancellation policies before accepting a job.

After removing pull down, you should not see any jitter frames, period.
I would suspect that AE’s guess was incorrect. 🙂

  • The thing is, this little “surprise” they sprang on you, shows their true colors. Sooner or later we all have to deal with people who have a position of power in a deal, and will abuse that position for their own ends.
Personally, I wouldn’t sign a Do Not Compete, it gives away moch of your power as a creative.

PS. This isn’t related to your last topic is it??? It would explain alot, if it was.
