[Chris Borjis] “then edit in an xdcam timeline in final cut pro..BUT change
the render settings of the xdcam sequence to ProRes, that way you
don’t have to render the whole timeline.”

Chris — You mention this, but I just imported XDCam footage into FCP (for the first time), threw together several clips (just back to back) and didn’t have to render. My sequence codec is XDCAM HD422 1080p30 (50 Mb/s CBR) (as those are what we recorded the files as). Any idea why that is or if I’m doing something I shouldn’t? I had set up the Easy Setup to be the 422 HD 50 Mb/s CBR before I started…My render settings are set to be the same as my sequence settings…

Also, I’m used to working in Avid, is there no direct import method that can be used? I have to go through a 3rd party every time?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Rich —

and this will allow me to create a searchable list of all the files on a drive? What about a drive that is not currently mounted?

and does it do all types of files?

I assume you are talking about this software on this website: https://diskcatalogmaker.com/

    Thanks,
    Mike

My guess is that it has something to do with my video card NVIDIA Quadro 4000, my playback settings, or my codec settings. All of a sudden, when I used my Black Magic card to hook up a bad external monitor via component, I was able to see more videos. I’m not having issues playing DV QT files, or at least the 4 i’ve tried, and one sequence that has a mp4 H.264 in it. Another sequence, similar settings, same file, I am having issues. BUT, when I change the render codecs, I am able to see video playing in real time (i.e. — Photo-JPEG though choppy, Uncompressed 10-bit, Apple Pro Res 422 HQ, XDCam 720p 60 Mb/s, and even Avid DV, though 720p 24fps footage, etc.).

This all brings me to my next question: is there some plugin that I need to be able to use the h.264 codec engine in FCP?

    Thanks!

Ok. So say I have a few harddrives hooked into my computer, and I only want to create a csv for one of them not all of them, how do i go about that? I assume in terminal my command lines should look like:

    find . -type f -name “*” -exec ls -al {} \; find . -type f -name “*” -exec ls -al {} \; | awk ‘ {print $3″, “$5”, “$6, $7, $8”, “$9 }’ > file.csv

    Thanks!

Format doesn’t seem to matter. I’ve tried FLV, MOV, MP4, etc. and even images and even audio (i.e. — mp3)

I’m playing the media from an internal harddrive (not system drive, but rather an extra drive on my system).

And it isn’t always the desktop images that I see, a mp4 I was just playing was strobing. Sometimes I see a burn in from my screensaver.

The sequence settings for my strobing mp4 I just mentioned are:

1280×720 HDTV 720p 16:9 sq. pix, 24 fps, h.264 compressor @ 100% quality (though same effect using Photo – JPEG), 48 kHz, 16-bit channel grouped.

I have always render in RGB, with normal motion filtering quality. 2 Audio Outputs, Frame rate @ 100% of sequence editing timebase, and resolution 100% of sequence frame size, render codec same as sequence codec, and quality of master templates and motion projects is normal (unchecked: always use best quality when rendering movies).

Video playback occurs through the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview, though I don’t have a digital Cinema monitor, so I don’t know if that matters. External video is off. Audio playback is default. I have no issues playing audio, it is just the video. Argh.

    Thanks!

yeah i have only entered one line on the command end, but will experiment with it as i learn things very quickly.

how would i go from your line above to exporting the information to a text file or to excel (for example). if it could go to excel, that is just as well.

    thanks,
    mike
