The hexagonal spots appear appreciably lighter or darker depending on what is behind them, and I would guess that most of the colour data behind the spots is probably unavailable.
Here’s one of the frames, with the two main spots highlighted

Thanks. If I do manage to get OSX 10.5 – is there any problem with moving from Tiger to Leopard in relation to the versions of FCP that I am running? I run FCP HD on my Powerbook and FCP 6 on my G5 (also PPC).
Both machines are currently using OSX 10.4.11 -
More complications. ShotPut now only runs on OSX 10.5. I guess I definitely need to buy 10.5

Many thanks to all. I’m hamstrung by the fact that in Greece it’s difficult to get sxs cards at short notice. I’ll be using as many 24GB sxs cards as the facilities company have got. I’ll have to rely on ShotPut and external drives. Is using XDCAM transfer, albeit without all its componenets, definitely to be avoided?

Thanks. I think my solution is going to be for me to transfer directly to an external drive. I dont have time or the support here in Greece to add more HD memory to my Powerbook.
I have an added complication in that not all the software components of XDCAM Transfer work on my Powerbook, as I cannot run the newest version of FCP. But I assume this will not affect the XDCAM Transfer’s ability to set the import function in its preferences to an external HD.
Would you suggest getting an external drive that can connect to my Powerbook via Firewire? Would the XDCAM transfer tool allow the Firewire port to be used rather than USB? I’m thinking of transfer times between the camera, PB and external drive.

Don/Craig. Many thanks. Problem solved and a rather vital shoot in London can now finally be edited here in Athens!

Thanks. But when I add my 4 parent BPAV folders (BPAV, BPAV2, BPAV3, BPAV4) to the XDCam transfer tool, only one (BPAV) says it has clips (3 – the last being incomplete). The other folders say 0 clips. Import is only allowed to these 3 clips. Importing sub clips is greyed out and unavailable.

I wonder if you can offer some advice on a problem I have encountered using the EX3 for the first time…
I transferred the files from the SxS cards to my Mac Hard drive.
The card reader created four BPAV folders on my drive, but half of the MP4 files within these BPAV folders are unreadable by XDCam transfer software eg it doesn’t ‘see’ them and wont import. It’s odd because 3 files (about half the footage shot) imported fine as .mov clips. Perhaps the problem lies with the fact that one clip spanned two SxS cards? The first part imported fine, but the second part of that clip, and subsequent clips are not being ‘seen’ by XDCam transfer. The files are all intact in the finder window and show their size. But they wont preview in Quicktime, but are readable by VLC player, so it seems all the media is there.
Any suggestions on how I can rectify this would be very greatly appreciated.
many thanks
Mike
