I’ve been away, terribly sorry for the late follow up and thank you for your advice.

I reset preferences by holding down option and command during reboot.. and it took a while for my effects and fonts to load (so much that i reset fcpx again) and it was fine after that.

Unfortunately the same issue occurs with the font dropdown being oversized and blocking view of what i’m editing.

is there any other ways to fix this?
