Just for fun, I recreated the effect for you using Trapcode Particular and Trapcode lux. It is not perfect, but very close approximate for the effect. The only thing I would change, had I more time would be to change the flare. I used lux, but a customized Knoll light flare, as said above, would be better and offer more control.

Here is a link to the file

    I hope this helps.

All of the particle layers are linked to the rotation of the null layer named “Particle Rotation” so to move the direction of the entire effect, just adjust the x and y rotation.

PS, you will need to download the trailer in 720p to use as a background comparison image in the comp. The name of the trailer from the website you provided above is the_dark_knight-tlr1_720p.mov

Finally, I must confess that virtually everything I learned about AFX was due to this forum and the contributions of everyone and the tutorials – thank you all

  • I am aware of all the news channels. I did not know if there was any particular design you liked and were trying to replicate. I asked for an example because it is much easier to show a graphic of the final look you want than to try to write it out in text. Example – CNN, fox news, abc news…that is all I was asking

  • What look are you going for – do you have any particular example you wish to emulate? I would be happy to try to point you in the right direction.

I am assuming that this is a 2d map. The easiest way I can think of is to make your initial glacier map and then break it up into multiple pieces/layers that make up the whole. You can use masks to achieve this. That way, you can make any rough edges you want. Simply animate the masks over time to “shrink” the glaciers and give the illusion of the glaciers breaking up over time and melting inward.

This would be a pretty easy effect with trapcode’s shine plugin. Just create a duplicate layer from your footage and mask off the teeth, apply trap code shine and animate the multiplier and ray length to get the effect you want. You can also apply an adjustment layer to the whole comp to blow it out to white using a level adjustment and animating the black output from 0 to 255

I am going off memory here, but you can adjust the color spectrum and desaturate all of the colors you dont want visible to grey. It is an old photographer’s trick…like when they take out all colors but red and leave a red rose. Any how, you can do the same thing with color balance or use the leaveColor effect, both under the Color Correction folder under the effects panel. Just apply the effect and desaturate all of the colors except the jersey colors of the team you want to retain. If you want to desaturate the rest of the surroundings, you can duplicate the footage, and animate a rough mask around your subject and desaturate the entire background. Obviously, this works best when you have distinct colors. The other way is to hand rotoscope out the footage you want to retain and desaturate the rest…this is a very time intensive option.

As for the player cut out coming forward, the quickest and most straight forward way I can think of is to stop motion the footage at the appropriate time, duplicate your layer. and then use a mask to cut out the player. Then just animate the scale of the masked player to make him grow over time, or if you want to, you can make the layers 3d and move the masked player footage forward towards the camera.

If you need more help, let me know

    It is actually pretty simple.

All you need to do is create a 3d room and then make 5 compositions for your walls of the images you want to display.

Then green screen in you actor and props, simulate reflections of you talent and there you go.

see Andrew Kramer’s tutorials on this site or videocopilot.net for how to make a 3d room and also how to fake 3d reflections.

    Hope this helps

All you need to do is make a new comp and call it “main”. Make a second comp to place your moving text. Call it text. Place in your text and animate it moving across the screen. Now, place your text comp in your Main comp and apply the “cc ball action” effect. Play with the grid spacing and ball size until you get the look you are after.

I hope this helps. If you need any further help, let me know.
