    Jeff,

Thanks for your input and feedback. It helped quite a bit. I’ve been checking out the sites you’ve recommended and will keep watching. Another person had mentioned the iMac idea as well and I might consider that as well. I had been in video production full time up until a few years ago when the economy forced me to fall back on an earlier career to get by. I still am producing but more part time now, at least until things get better. Anyway, thanks for your time and help.

Thanks, Bob, I just tried it (using Cinema Works) and seems to work. That’s encouraging. Now I have to do the slow process of selecting the clips and conforming them. I’m hoping that I won’t have to conform each individual smaller clip that I’ve cut but can apply this to an entire captured clip and it will apply it to all the smaller clips I’ve cut from from the whole captured one. Again, thanks. It seems to work.

Hi Joel, Thanks for the help.I’m looking into Twixtor but a little leery of putting out the money if it doesn’t do it. I like the motion blur idea and am trying it. I’ve used it before with some motion blur problems with SloMo in the 29.97 rate, however, so far no luck. I don’t have much blur, mostly a sort of stop and start. I’ll keep trying different settings. As usual, much of this is trial and error.

Thanks Shane. I checked that out and all my drives are formatted as MacOS Extended. I also thought it might be related to the settings in the System Settings in FCP where you can fill in “Minimum Allowable Free Space On Scratch Disks” and check or not “Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size To:” and then put in a number if checked. I tried checking the second one, Limit Capture…, and putting in very large number like 14K or leave it unchecked. I just recaptured a tape and it still makes them in segments, very much like you described. Still lost but I’ll keep trying and reading.

  • David, Thanks for your help on this. I followed up on your advice as well as read up in the manuals (noted above) and got it figured out and working. Thanks again.

  • Thanks John. I did read up on this in Chapt IV and it helped me figure it out. As a relatively recent convert from M100 I wasn’t aware of this function, so thanks a lot.

Thanks, Tom for your input. I misspoke; it was late and I was tired. I have been multicamera editing for some time. I’ve cut many projects in DV and the process has been seamless. I really meant that when I “play the timeline” and “with playhead sync set to open,” the viewer switches from showing the three camera angles in the viewer to just the current angle showing in the entire viewer. And it plays smoothly but I only see the one angle. When I stop playing the timeline, the three camera angles again show up in the viewer. That’s what I can’t figure out and, of course, can’t edit using multiclip. If I advance the timeline, using the left/right arrow keys, it moves ahead only a few plodding frames at a time (both in the viewer and on the canvas) and when I do that, then the three camera angles remain showing in the viewer and I can very slowly make cuts but that defeats the purpose of the multiclip. Plus, as I mentioned, after each cut, I need to re-render the remainder of the clip because it becomes unrendered.

Anyway, thanks again for your suggestion. I’ll keep trying and continuing to learn the HDV workflow.

  • Thank you, Barbara. I went to the link and checked it out and it does look like it will work. Again, thanks for your help. I’ll give that a try and see how it goes.

    Mike
