Well, in short, I’m trying to capture via Firewire. Though I’m discovering that FCP6. doesn’t support HDV24 frame. I’ve been down this road before. While the internal work flow is not so much a problem it’s the down conversion that’s confusing me. I need to produced BACK to analog BETA SP, or H.264.

(I build TV commercials). Shooting in native 60P or 30P is a cinch. FCP takes care of that and so does KONA LH. My issue is whether it’s within the the JVC Deck Output (I doubt) the KONA control panel (strong possibliltiy) or FCP, which is what it is.

So…24P video shot on a JVC, import back into FCP via Firewire on an JVC HD 50 deck and then output back out to uncompressed 8 bit on Beta. HELP!

Thanks, Chris. This worked…worked quite well. Sometimes the PDF manuals get fuzzy.

July 27, 2008 at 1:36 pm in reply to: New Deck Purchase Suggestions?

Question about the BR HD50U deck, a post on the BHVideo site has a reader review indicating that that FCP would only recognize the deck with an Intel Mac. Does anyone know that is authentic?

I’m seriously considering the unit, but not if I have to go purchase an Intel Mac.

I’d really enjoy this dialog, too. In our small tv market, we still deliver spots via Beta Sp. However I have learned that the Cox affiliate in the Tulsa market is accepting FCP QT’s via upload. I’ve discussed this with several and there doesn’t seem to be a definitive answer in this market (Northwest Arkansas).

I’m all for uploading unless, but work is typically 30 second commercials, not program length content.
Don’t know if I’d want to send out a hard drive.

Ah. Possible that copying the files over to the internal would help. I did install FCP 4.5 on another computer and opened, then copied the EDL. That helped Kind of a long way around the block, though.

“You’ll be in render hell” caught my attention! After just switching from my trusty Cinewave to AJA IO, I found all the presets a little daunting. So, I’ve set my Easy’s to Betacam 8-Bit uncompressed. We output to Beta for tv dubs. Thinking my sequence presets should be the same (since all our video is DVCAM) I set the sequences to uncompressed 8-bit. I thought my system was broke. I couldn’t render despite hitting the render settings a couple of hundred times! (well, it seemed like it).

So, you’re saying go back to DV/DVCPro sequences? That way I can still OUTPUT to Beta, but keep life simple in DV???

    I REALLY appreciate your suggestion.
