As we have dutifully backed up our work for years, our new version of FCP 6.02 won’t read our backups whatsoever. The error message is simple:” can’t read the files or your file was created on a newer version of FCP. Our backups are on DVD and while the files, GFX, etc., are all there, FCP “just says no!”

    Tips, suggestions?

what version of fcp were they saved as?

Are you copying all contents to your hard drive from the DVD?

you might try a clover+I (info) on the folder containing the projects and make sure its not read only.

I would advise not to trust DVD recordable backup
one little scratch and your data is hosed and unrecoverable.

I had this problem when the projects were opened and saved on a Leopard system. I had to roll back to Tiger 10.4.11 and was able to open them on that system. This is the first time I’ve heard of a Tiger system not opening them. I thought it was a Leopard issue. Are you trying to open them straight from the DVD or are you copying them to the internal drive and opening them there?

Ah. Possible that copying the files over to the internal would help. I did install FCP 4.5 on another computer and opened, then copied the EDL. That helped Kind of a long way around the block, though.
