Michael, I render using the MXF HD EX 1920×1080-60i template from Vegas as I find that the quality loss using this is so small that I don’t notice it. Bring that into Premiere and render away 🙂
FYI, I find that it’s a great alternative to the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 format and an MXF file is a LOT smaller than the comparable DVCPRO HD file.

You’re welcome Luigi. As John said, this is one the first presets I create on a new machine because I use it all the time during DVD file creation.

There are several different templates for mp4.
If I’m rendering for YouTube, I use the free Video4YouTube extension from the good folks at Vegasaur.

Using this method I was able to get a 2 hr. video file down from 10 GB. to under 5GB. so I know it works great!! -
John Rofrano has an excellent tutorial on his site on using this codec and I suggest that you check it out if you’re unsure about anything.
Avid DNxHD Template for Vegas Pro

There are a lot of codecs that Vegas can’t read which is why we have to install them, preferably from the developer of the codec or a very reputable source.

I’ve received several files in DNxHD format from commercial producers over the years so I don’t see anything to worry about. Go ahead and use it as needed.
