Haven’t really noticed this issue in the past. I might test in FCP7 to see if the same thing happens…

The graphic was supplied to me – I bring the whites down to around 94% before exporting – blacks I keep at 0.

It seems to be where the black background meets the white text that is causing the problem when the
gaussian blur is applied. Can you replicate the issue at your end? i.e. In Ps make black background, make a row of small white text – export file – put in Pr sequence and add gaussian blur then render and look at the
    YC Waveform…

Yes in Ps blacks are 0 and Whites are 255. I set sequence renderer to ‘I Frame only MPEG’ and get the same issue…

    Hi Tim,

The file is a RGB 8 bit .psd. It’s basically a white box with black text and a black box with white
text and white logo in it 1280 x 820. Sequence is 1920x1080i 50i ProRes HQ as the render codec. The super blacks appear after render on internal waveform skopes and external waveform skopes via AJA Kona LHi SDI.

Happens if I set sequence to ‘composite in linear colour’ or without as well. I’ve saved as .png from Ps and get the same issue. It’s fine without any filters – but when I add a gaussian blur to get rid of flicker I get the row of super black spikes down to about 0.25 on the Pr YC waveform once rendered.

    Cheers,

    Mike

I think so… I don’t have any sync issues in AVID with the LHi.

Great. Nice to know I’m not the only one with the issue 🙂

I have had this random sync issue in FCP7 ever since I purchased the LHi about 3 years ago.
I spent a lot of time trying to work out the issue and AJA even sent
me a new card… but nothing helped. Tried many different settings, drivers and tweaks, but still had sync going out by up to 5 frames on a random basis. Then one day I turned of audio scrubbing (SHIFT S) and sync is now perfect. Try that and see if it works for you.

Yeah, because the inspector (and other parts of the program) are live and dynamically linked all the time it seems to slow things down. Mind you I’m on a Mac Pro 3,1 so it might not be an issue with new iMacs and MacBooks…? Even with the inspector closed it’s not snappy like FCP classic or AVID. This is a bit of a deal breaker for me at the moment, but still enjoying learning the program. Some of the stuff in there is simply awesome. Worst thing is trying to use my tablet (I use it in ‘pen’ mapping not ‘mouse’) – almost unusable in the Event Browser. It was obviously designed by mouse users 🙂

Was having slowdown issues with my Mac Pro. Restarting fcpx helped a little but the real fix was closing the inspector. Night and day difference – it’s quick again.

  • Thanks Craig – will try that out next time I load it up.

  • I’ve only played with FCP X a few times… is the set up the timeline and event browser clips in the Danni Lowinski story something you can achieve in the current version? Just looks different to what I’ve seen before…
