The free training on Avid’s website is actually from lynda.com and is very good. I hadn’t cut video in 5 years (audio guy by trade) and was chopping 16mm (prores telecine) footage and throwing in mattes, motion effects, etc. by the end of the night.
If you are an experienced editor that should be enough to show you where the tools are that you are looking for!

I think that is all my fault. I sorted the reviews by most favorable to least favorable then I started clicking the “no” button next to the “Was this review helpful question.”
Since I rated all the 5 star reviews as not helpful and the 1 star reviews as helpful, Apple in true Apple style took ALL the reviews down!!!

I think you are missing the point.
People are paying you because of your skills, your chops, your attention to detail. Just because everyone and their mother will have video editing software for cheap now doesnt mean they will be good video editors!
Maybe a better example is cars. Almost everybody has a car, they are cheap and easy to get. Just because you own a car, and drive it every day even does not mean you are qualified to drive a race car in the Daytona 500.
