What version of Watchout are you using for this? What additional features are you looking for to be in Watchout or another program?

a few things to think about:

what size of screen are you looking to use? This will determine the minimum projector output you are looking for

what is your audience? What kind of venue are you showing at? What are the sources?

Using a short throw fixed lens usually means allowing the corner focus to be softer that normal due to the necessity of short throw. Another idea would be to utilize a mirror projection setup to gain projection distance.

  • are you looking to capture real time and be out of the room? If that is truly the case, you need to look at a wireless solution if you don’t want to be tethered with cables.

An easier solution would be to shoot to tape on the camera and then transfer after the eng shoot and then you accomplish your goal. Of course, this solution would require a delay as you would be capturing into FCP after the event and not in real time

Can you live with recording to an external deck? If so then it is very easy and the only drawback would be that the camera would be tethered to the deck via the video cable.

If no, what about doing a dual record? Record to the camera via the 2 lavs and record the ambient with another deck or camera. This would require a bit more post work but would leave you completely untethered.

Myself, I would shoot a tethered lock down shot and use a 2nd camera for the handheld and b roll shots. Then combine in post.

Sounds like you are looking for 3 seperate channels of audio on the video. The lav on the minister, the lav on the groom, and the ambient room audio

    or

are you looking to do a single channel mixed by the 2 lavs with the other channel being the ambient sound?

You can download the demo software for Watchout from dataton. It is a full working download with the only limitation being on the output side. Without the usb key it won’t output the signal from the display computers but you can get a good feel for the software prior to.

The Spyder solution is a good one as well if you can afford the money but considering you are looking at a 344 at a minimum, that isn’t cheap even on a rental.

Another solution to look at would be Playback pro from dtvideolabs.com which is cheaper than Watchout and when used with simple sync can be a multi channel software solution.

Are both the dvd players and cameras outputs the same (i.e. component)? If so, a simple solution might be a router with machine control

Another solution to look at would be the Hippotizer from Green Hippo. Very robust and versatile units that are used both by touring shows and permanent installations.

Just some thoughts…feel free to ask any ?s that come to mind. I use all of the above for various projects.

It should be a RS-422 if betaSP not RS-232. I use a keyspan USB to RS-232 adaptor to connect to a RS-232 to RS-422 cable. It allows control of the deck. easy to make the 232 to 422 adaptor cable if you can’t find one. Just google for it
