I’d try poking around in another event or library. Sometimes you can start a project only to realize you began in the wrong event. Worse comes to worse, try opening from the backups.

BTW – I’m still in 10.1.4 as well. We often stay a version behind to avoid bug issues and need to wait to update our Xsan to a newer OS, but too difficult (read: risky) to do during the production season. Looking forward to update.

    Hey James…

It might be kind of a long way around, but what would happen if you exported the edit(s) (projects) to make them self-contained, reimport them, imported all the HD clips, and then select as needed to make one or more big-assed multicam clip(s) using the audio to sync them?

Haven’t tried it, but in theory, you should be able to toggle the HD files to make them the active audio/video. Not sure, but you might give a smaller try. You may even be able to extend/trim/replace if if works.

    All the best,

    Mike

I usually just click once and drag up or down if I need to make a big adjustment…

  • Can you convert to something else thru MPEGStreamclip?

    Hey…

Just a thought… but I remember a bug like this a few years ago that I thought was fixed, but you might see what happens if you turn off “Background Noise Reduction” in the effects you’ve using.

There was one project I was working on where either the paste effects didn’t work at all, or work take my system down. Once I turned that effect off in my “copy” all worked fine. BTW – I know it’s not audio, but I also remember having weird issues like this with projects with VERY large still images in them. Check sizes if so.

BTW – I also agree with earlier post that you might try using “Paste Attributes” instead.

I don’t seem to have the issue anymore, but there are a couple other things you might try if that doesn’t work:

First, back all your projects up if you haven’t already. Should something else be going on, it can’t hurt. Try deleting the FCPX application entirely and reinstall (not as troublesome or scary as it sounds – your projects are unaffected).

Or, boot from another OS (if you have another drive or partition) to see if it’s OS related. Could be some “Core Audio” issue that needs to be fixed.

No real harm in trying this as well – try copying your entire project (from the timeline) and paste it into a new one. Sometimes it seems there’s some shred of code that mucks things up that doesn’t get carried forward when doing this.

Hope something works. Best of luck!

Also, it might be too late to even mention, but you should avoid updates mid-project.

  • Not sure if this was explicitly mentioned or not, but you can also just select all the clips in your NON-compound timeline hit CNTL-L and add (or subtract) some db overall. All levels will be raised (or lowered) that much – including keyframes.

No need to compound to get a “master volume” effect.

Anytime this has happened for me, the “troubled” clips show up with UPPER field dominance. When I change them to LOWER, problem goes away.

You may need to add the “Field Dominance Override” setting in the “Info” view for the metadata. Can’t remember if it’s there by default.

I run into this all the time when cutting SD footage into HD time lines (not sure if that’s what you’re doing).

I’m not sure if your workflow/delivery needs are the same as mine, but my workaround has been:

    1) Project should be set to interlaced (for broadcast or DVD)

    2) Footage (the clips themselves) that are giving you the issue should have their field dominance changed to LOWER.

I’ve been able to mix just about any SD footage by switching from UPPER to LOWER. Footage looks great and no more striping.

    Hope that helps…

  • Hey Tony…

Glad it helped because I know exactly how you felt when it reopened correctly.

I had a months long project broken as well. Numerous compounds, dozens of green screens, countless graphics. I just sat there looking at the empty viewers jaw agape.

    Happy to have helped out!
