Could you just select the section of music below the compound, copy the selection of music you need to edit to into the compound, make your edits and then delete the music? I’m phrasing this as a question as I haven’t actually tried this.

Couldn’t you just go to Share and select email as an export option?? You could bypass all that exporting and end up with an email-sized “reference” movie.

Do you mean the end of the edited piece as in fade out or do you mean dip to black between clips. If it’s fade out then just click the end of the clip and hit command-t. If it’s fade to black between clips, use Fade To Color. Or do it manually as was suggested. But maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re trying to do.

It is an absolute certainty that everything whether electronic, mechanical or biological will eventually fail. I too have the 5D II, the 7D, the 60D and 5D III and none of them have failed despite my abuse. But they all will. In the meantime I intend to fire off a few million frames and not worry about that inevitability.
The reason I even brought this up is that very few people post about good experiences – the vast majority – whereas people that have bad experiences love to share.
It is very hard to find a bad camera these days. We live in a wonderful age for photography. So don’t dwell on a measly 30 posts. There are thousands and thousands of photographers out there who are happily shooting away without a hitch. Just get a camera and get shooting.

  • That sounds like an incredible amount of work for one person to take on!! I don’t envy you at all. Would it be possible to just convert your selects? I don’t know what system you’re editing in but if it’s FCP then log and transfer with the EOS plugin is pretty easy. I’m sure you know about that already. And in FCPX or PPro you can edit the native h264 files and just export as ProRes from the timeline – and I’m sure you know all about that, too.
I wish I could be more help. Good luck!!

  • Pierre-Luc, is there any reason why you’re converting the files to ProRes as you go along? Maybe I’m misunderstanding but couldn’t you share your files as shot in h264 and have the other editors convert them as needed?

At some point nearly every camera will freeze or lock up or otherwise stop functioning momentarily. Unfortunately that sometimes happens right when you absolutely have to get the shot or the clip.
But don’t let comments on the internet fool you. People hardly ever post about passing the 200,000 shutter-actuation mark but when a camera quits you hear all about it. Point is, the 5D III – and virtually any other modern camera – is an amazing machine. Buy it and go take some pictures or shoot some clips.

You bet, Steve, I agree. I shoot exclusively with DSLRs myself. And of course, we should all aspire to greatness. Lord knows I’ve got a long ways to go. My point, though, is that a lot of people I talk to or see comments from on these forums – fora?? – have the impression that all that’s required to shoot lovely DSLR video is to just get a DSLR and shoot video. Nothing could be further from the truth.
But yes, DSLR trumps an inexpensive video camera any day. I was just thinking that Chad’s question was about a specific scenario, one that would require more than just a passing familiarity with DSLR video shooting.

I agree that this is indeed inspiring but – and I hate to make another assumption – I don’t think Chad will be shooting for Callaway. Great things can be accomplished with practice but even Usain Bolt had to take his first baby steps.
