Since you asked, the rest of the day is supposed to follow a 4 hour schedule.

An alternative for breakfast is 6oz of Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla) with a banana and a half cup of bran flakes. In the winter I live on Bob’s Red Mill hot cereal products – takes a bit longer to prepare but it is a comforting way to start the day and it makes your insides feel lovely.

Lunch 1 is a sandwich, light on the bread, heavy on the meat (turkey or ham) with cheese. It is important to get quality deli meat – lower in sodium and fat so you can eat more of it without blowing your diet.

Lunch 2 is either another sandwich, or some other protein such as tuna salad (I mean actual salad with tuna or shrimp). Honestly I usually just have one lunch around 1pm, that omelet keeps me going. Gotta try to have the elevensies and twosies this winter.

Then dinner is pick a protein – we keep frozen portions of sockeye salmon, tilapia, boneless chicken breasts and sirloin burgers – makes dinner easy, just look at the calendar. Have a hot veg with dinner – lately we have been enjoying locally grown spaghetti squash. Sirloin burger nights are sans bun + salad (lettuce, tomato, chickpeas, shredded carrot and a sprinkle of Feta cheese (salty but oh so good) and a few chopped walnuts).

If we fancy dessert, some sliced strawberries with a dollop of Greek yogurt is good. You should not eat bananas at night due to the high glycemic index.

So that’s the rest of my current eating philosophy. Next week I have 4 nights in Chicago, so all bets are off. Breakfast buffet, crappy convention center lunch and splurge for dinner. But basic principles can be adhered to .

PS – Pierogies sound good Mark.

Richard, your question is a bit broad. We all get better with experience, challenging projects and time. Can you clarify what you are asking?

Video transfer inc in boston will convert just about any format. You gotta fedex it anyway so location matters not.
We used to do tons of work in Chicago but not lately.

Here in the US the government has a standard rate for mileage reimbursement that we follow. I think it is 52 or 55 cents per mile. This reimbursement covers your driving cost, fuel etc. Generally you do not bill for fuel separately if you are using your own vehicle.

Luckily my hair pulling days are over. I do a lot of chin scratching. I used to be prone to banging my fist against the desk, but once or twice that caused something to reboot!

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for CS5 improvements. Question is will CS5 still work with XP?

Nice. Coming from David (TM) Roth (R) Weiss (©) that’s a big compliment!

I just innovated a stabilizing rig for my Blackberry. Especially useful for use in the kitchen. Someone call Alton Brown.

You can get sweeping crane shots if you use a potholder – it dampens the vibrations.

October 7, 2009 at 1:29 pm in reply to: Shooting a pilot: need advice

This original post does have that mysterious tone to it. One would think that there are production companies in the far east (do we still use that expression? I thought it was now called Asia.)

Why would the client assume that the one person they know in USA would be able to create a reality show pilot? That’s kind of like saying, “Oh, you’re from New York? Do you know Bob Smith. I think he’s from Manhattan.”

If in fact the original post is on the level, then Mandy should heed the advice already given – hire people who know what they are doing and have a CONTRACT.

Do you suppose Apple paid Zacuto to make this device? If you’re going to spend $300 for a stabilizer, why not spend a bit more and get an actual VIDEO CAMERA. The whole point of shooting video with a PHONE is that it is a PHONE and you don’t stand out in the crowd holding a VIDEO CAMERA.

I wonder if they make one for the Fisher Price camcorder. Anyone remember that one. It recorded to audio cassettes in black and white, but the picture was very shaky. A Zacuto stabilizer would have helped 7 year olds shoot much better video.

While we’re on the subject, I hear Etch-a-Sketch is coming out with an interface for Photoshop.

A contract, even a one pager, makes life a lot easier even for simple projects. Unless it is a one-off shoot arranged at the last minute with a reputable freelancer, I always do some form of a contract.

Stipulate the payment terms and get a signature. A paper trail is like the yellow brick road – at the beginning is Munchkinland (contract) and at the end is Oz (a check), which is the most important piece of paper of all, as that gets you home to Kansas. Hmm, I smell a blog brewing…
