Affordable is a relative term. Yeah the equipment may be cheaper but what about the cost in additional hours of post?
Events, especially those in a dark ballroom, need to be shot with large enough sensors and long enough lens so that you actually get something usable recorded. Trying to document something like this on a camcorder is a mistake unless it is just for reference (ie, to see where the slides change or to get an audio recording with video for reference).The 7d variety of camera is hugely popular because it can take the place of a more expensive digital film camera for indie filmmakers and others not wanting to buy or rent a Red, Alexa or whatever.
As with any piece of technology, there is a time and place for it. Documenting events is not the place for a DSLR unless you are shooting a documentary style video or stills.

It was only a matter of time before this happened. I too like the demo video on the original link – very classy, nicely shot and you don’t miss hearing Beyonce or whoever.
Now at least wedding shooters can have this conversation:
Bride: And we want ‘You’re the Sunshine in my Underpants’ by the Black Eyed Turnips to be our theme.
Videographer: I understand. However we cannot legally use that song. I’ll select some licensed music which will fit your theme.
Bride: How about if I give you the song on a flash drive? I paid the 99 cents so I own it.
Videographer: Technically you paid for a copy of the song, however the record company sees it differently. If I use this song and sell you copies of the video, I can be sued. Will you sign this contract agreeing to cover all of my legal fees?
Bride: Mommy!!!

Now let me get this straight, you want to take my $3,000 and then say you won’t do as you’re told? This is outrageous.
Videographer: Well Ma’am, perhaps you had better find another vendor. I cannot assume the risk you are asking for.
Mother: We got the same story from the other guy across town.
Videographer: That is correct.
Mother: So it is your way or the highway?
Video: Basically, or you could have your uncle Frank shoot it with his iPhone.
Mother: I’ve heard the iPhone takes nice video. But it is a rectangle that doesn’t fit my tv.
Video: Agreed.
Mother: So will you agree to use the music we want?
Video: I’m sorry I cannot afford to pay a large settlement. You see, there is now a legal precedent, Columbia vs Smith, in which a wedding videographer like myself was sued for $150,000 for using one song in a wedding video. While the settlement was lower it was still 5 figures. I cannot assume that risk, can you?
Mother: No.
Video: So, are we still working together?
Mother: My brother is a personal injury lawyer. I’m going to ask him what he thinks. What was that case?
Video: I have a printout here.

Our projects are gradually become lee “a video” and more “a package of services that all work together.”
We try to get new clients up and running on Basecamp because that is a way to have files of any variety all in one easy to access location – does not require an FTP client – is good with firewalls – and allows the client to upload stuff back to us without using e-mail.
Those with which we use it see a big improvement in efficiency.
We previously used FTP and simply a down-load only password protected client site on our server.
As with any project, know thy client. For some, FTP is no problem, for others it is a foreign language.

Just today I was discussing this issue with our computer guy – he asked what kind of problems I encounter. On the i7 machine which is tastier than the Core2duo system, I made a basic HDV sequence, stacked 4 layers of video and a title and hit play – it played with the expected jitters when using full quality (this is CS4 by the way).
Granted running on a non-raid internal drive perhaps this level of performance is expected
So we turned on the resource monitor, hit play, and the Premiere interface areas of the screen went pale (about 50% opacity white over the program – no “not responding” error – just sat there. I waited a few minutes, then hit the X to close the program, and got the APPCRASH info saying the premiere.exe had crashed – obviously.
Odd that having the resource monitor displayed would cause a program crash – or perhaps coincidence.

Overall this has been one of the most level-headed mac vs pc threads in a very long time. The goal of a thread like this is not so much “what is best?” but rather “what works best for the individual user?”
Interesting reading as we consider the need to upgrade windows machines for better CS5 performance – but like many, we find numerous factors are involved – GPU, processor, RAID, RAM, conflicts. It is not a straightforward problem/solution, but rather trial and error and the threads like this one help as well.

Your original post is quite vague.
You have not even told us what your business is. Do you bake cakes? Fix wobbly chairs? Repair shoes? Shoot video? What kind of video?
Any other services?
How do you set prices? Do you plan on marketing or just waiting for people to knock on your door?Lots of questions go into a business plan but the basic one is – what do you do and how are you going to make money doing it?
