I have the same problem ever since CS6. Lots of things to try.
I use HDVsplit a free program that captures clips from my HDV deck without incident. The days of having to ever batch recapture from HDV are almost nil.

I generally send 720×480 h264 mp4 for client review unless they specifically want to see HD.
For presentation try to speak with the AV tech or someone from the AV company. Just today I was contacted about a corporate video we are finalizing. The message actually said:
Please send nothing bigger than 720p but probably send something SD for safety

I’ve seen AV techs get an authored DVD and explore the disc and then play the VOB files bypassing the menu completely.
Some AV techs don’t know the difference between video formats while others know a lot.
Assume your end user knows nothing and is using a Windows 2000 Pentium 2 laptop, probably a Gateway!
Seriously now..ask what works best for the client and if they don’t know then offer options.

If these are actual Bigfoot hunters perhaps they should trade their guns for some raw steaks and a big net. After searching for the elusive beast their whole lives it would be a shame to kill it.

I was going to post that article about Escape from Tomorrow. It is a fascinating story. The movie itself sounds like a mess of gratuitous personal introspection and guerilla filmmaking shock shlock. But I will be interested to see it.

Disney is not so concerned about bad publicity based upon the fact that they make movies like the Lone Ranger (ouch).

We have all heard the urban legend about the proud father who sent a VHS to Disney of his daughter’s dance recital to the Little Mermaid soundtrack, and was sued for copyright infringement.

I can’t find anything about this on gizoogle, so it must be myth.

Lucasfilm was very tolerant of fan films, and other fan film genres have followed suit.

At this point, 10 years into the YouTube generation I can think of little that would be worth the expense for Disney. When you are Disney, nearly any publicity is good publicity, unless someone was physically injured (which unfortunately has happened also).

@Mark – in the -5 level of a convention center or hotel (5 floors below ground), cell phone service can be spotty if not nonexistent.

We use the Content Browser (formerly xdcam viewer) only to confirm that we have transferred everything off cards on location, and then to log timecodes into a script for the edit.
Since we are on Windows and Premiere, we have no need to transcode anything.

I just setup the content browser on my new Windows 8 laptop, and was a bit peeved that I had to pay $19.99 for what used to be free software.

Other than that it seems to work ok. Actually the content browser no longer pops up asking if you REALLY want to change directories, which is nice. Obviously I would not be trying to change directories if I wasn’t trying to change directories – so good improvement.

Still frame capture I also use which works as expected.

Only use these in a 2 person interview, assuming you have established the interviewer already, you can cut to a nod or whatever to cover an edit – as long as you are not changing the meaning.

Taking a shot out of context just to cover an edit is a stretch.

Better to have a 2nd camera angle and cut to look intentional. You often see the behind the scenes camera angle or a side view in network interviews.

It seems to only be an elaborate form to receive a newsletter. Is there site content or is it just a newsletter signup?

On that note I could not find my country in the drop down, and I have been using Premiere since well before 2007 (1998 I think).

Would be interested to see the content.

This is like saying “can we something besides Powerpoint at meetings?”

Well sure. There is Keynote, or Prezi.

Keynote is basically Powerpoint with better templates.

Prezi does some wonderful things but takes time to master to avoid doing cheese.

So you stick with PPT because everyone knows it and it is almost universally compatible, with the exception of video formats.

Depending upon your subject matter, maybe you can continue to use graphics but do something different.

Let’s say your company makes signs – you could present the text graphics in the format of signs. Might get old after a while but it is something different.

Same goes for license plates, tv monitors, t-shirts, coffee mugs.

Now if your videos are about how to fill out a TPS report then you kind of have to show the TPS report. This might mean doing some tabletop shots, lighting, jib shots and the previously mentioned time and money while still hitting deadlines.

I would suggest giving the powers that be some examples – either sketches if they are visual thinkers, or just a description. If you mock something up and it is not a finished product the message will be “here is something I didn’t spend much time on” – not good for anyone.
