I take it back! I think using the noise gate AND the effects dropped in by the essential sound panel, I have a good result. I chose “clean up noisy dialogue” and then ramped up reduce noise to my liking.

Interesting. I had looked at that a while back but forgot about it.
Looking again, I don’t think it will work for my specific problem. I have an air condtitioner noise in a dialogue track. I was able to knock out most of it with a noise gate (dynamics processing effect) but it creeps back in when people talk.
I’ll keep playing with essential sound, but will probably go to Audition after all.

Thanks for the tip! Just bought the Vegas Humble Bundle. Love that service.

I understand the software maker’s postion that “physical media is dead,” I can accept that rationally. But I still want a program that works for my clients and the occasional Blu-ray screening.
Ok. Looks like DVD Architect is $99 for one license/install. Also does Blu-ray.
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/dvd-architect/Good to know FCPX does DVD/Blu-ray, but I’m on PC for now.

All very true.
However, if I had some warning, I would have made sure I had Encore on every system where I might need it.
Purchased CS6 on Ebay as a backstop.
For the future, what do people use besides Encore these days? Anything more user friendly than Scenarist?

Thanks! Sorry to jump in emotionally without first searching for old posts on the topic.
I’m tweeting about it here:

Animating and Filmmaking at https://maddogmovies.comSo I understand @Adobe is encouraging people to get on the latest versions. But how do I install #Encore #CS6 now? I've been able to download it with #Premiere CS6 in the past, but need to get it for a new PC today and don't see CS6 links in the CC app any more. pic.twitter.com/0np7DQdYT2

That was it, thanks! I had to click that icon, making it blue and putting a slash through it.

I ran the files through GSPOT and saw that they each have an audio codec error, 0xfffe (Extensible wave format) not installed.
Weird that they both have error, while only the MJPEG doesn’t show audio in Premiere.
Is it worth trying to download and install 0xfffe (Extensible wave format) on my PC? I’ve never heard of it and don’t know where to obtain it.

Did some research on the internet, but didn’t find an answer yet. Just people with similar problems.
I downloaded a program called MediaInfo to tell me what the properties are of the files that work and don’t work.
First, here’s the MJPEG that Premiere sees no audio for.

Second, here’s an uncompressed 8 bit YUV AVI grab that Premiere reads the audio just fine. As far as I can tell, the audio specs are the same with each.
