Dave, your response is way more accurate than mine. I misread the beginning part. It was about 720p for high definition and I was thinking standard DVD definition. I think that the only thing I said right in all that was the capacity of the dual-layer disc.

Yes. It depends also on your DVD burner’s capabilities.

2) Will a DL DVD maintain 720p or downsize it to 480?
A DL DVD just means two layers of capacity (4.7Gb times two for a total of about 9.4 Gb of capacity). The maintaining of 720p or 480p depends on the authoring program or how you rendered the video. Standard DVD is 720p.

3) If I can in fact burn it to the DL and the DL does keeps it
at 720p, will it be playable on a typical (non blue ray)
HD player?
Yes, but again, it will depend on external factors like authoring software or rendering. A dual-layer DVD with 720p footage will play like a 720p-footage DVD on capable players. There are progressive-scan and “upscale” DVD players, but they will not play BLU-ray or High Definition streams.

I saw a bit of the answers and I think you may be confused with HD (1080×720 and above) and SD/DVD (720×480) dimensions of video. I hope I understood your questions correctly.

Start off with one of the “Credits” canned entries. See how it wraps in that particular event. Copy it, edit the copy. Save it as your own with a unique name: “Wrapping Text” instead of “Credits” in the media generator editor window.

Can you outline the steps that you’re going through to get to the text generator you’re using? I think the Pro Titler does not wrap.

Could it be “A” (add media from cursor)?

Maybe you had the video only in the clipboard and did SHIFT+INSERT?

Were you in the Explorer window or in the timeline? Ctrl+Shift+Q?

Have you tried the “fit to disc” option in the Optimize Disc option of the “Make DVD” process?

I sometimes use it, depending on how much space I need.

I have a Quinceañera I am currently editing that renders into 1h36m40s at 6.5 Gb, but if I use the “fit to disc” process and the bit rate goes down to 6.05 from 9.397mbps to fit as a 4.5 Gb file. I use this to put the file as a single-movie DVD to check for edits on a big screen. Else, I will have to cut out a lot more footage. Quinceañeras take forever to edit!

I have not been able to fit more than around 1:20 worth of 720×480 video on a 4.7Gb DVD before, so I’m going to keep an eye on this thread because I noticed the experts are answering things I might use.

Hello. For what it’s worth, I wanted to add that I could edit my camera’s files within Sony Vegas Pro.

I just purchased a Canon XF105 and after recording a few sample clips, I transferred the clips via the Canon utility that comes with the camera onto my laptop and then dragged the largest file into Vegas. It worked fine.

I am not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that I installed the utility software first, or that the clip is read by Vegas. It’s version 10.
