Many thanks for your very in depth response.
Couldn’t agree more about a worldwide generic PAL format – it would make things far more simple (especially for the likes of me).
I was obviously getting very confused by these different formats.

Was also informed using Sony Vegas/ architect that discs would be automatically made region free.

I guess Hollywood will have to wait a litle longer for my debut release.

I don’t know if i’m making this more difficult than it actually is.

To summarise:

I’m based in the UK and would like to send DVD’s to the US.
I’m using Sony Vegas to edit sound and add titles etc.
The current default i have been using was PAL DVD.

My understanding is that i would need to change these settings to NTSC for the discs to be read in the US

I have used different types of camera devices- the main one being a Panasonic SDR H-80- (this does not specify any particular format ie PAL / NTSC). I have also used footage from mobile phones and other digital cameras.

The only thing i really need to be confirmed is that if i adjust the settings in Vegas to NTSC will this create a disc that can be read in the US?

I have recorded video footage using a panasonic camera.

I am then using Sony Vegas to add sound effects and editing.

If i send any footage to the US i’d like to now how i can ensure that this can be played in the US.

My understanding from my previous posts is that if I use the settings as previously mentioned this should work.

Thanks again for your replies regarding my query.

I am currently using Sony Vegas so if my understanding is correct and i send a disc to be played in America i would need to:

Start New Project–
Select Region- America/Japan (60Hz/NTSc)
Select Video- DVD
Project- NTSC

For UK /Europe settings i would select:
Europe /Asia (50Hz/PAL)
Select Video-DVD
Project- Pal

Would appreciate if you could let me know if this correct and that i wouldn’t need to purchase any other software to send discs to be played in the US.

Apologies if i am asking the obvious but i am new to this and appreciate your feedback.

As i’m using Sony Vegas here in the UK would i need to adjust settings or purchase different types of DVD’s in order to correct this.

Just out of curiosity i was wondering when discs are sent from the US to the UK (or vice versa) do they have to be specially formatted in some way.

Success!

What i did was go to Sony updates and downloaded the most recent architect file. Having done that i put together clips from all of my cameras and it all flows together -including audio!!

I only purchsed the software a week ago (and thought) i downloaded all the most recent files.

Spoke to someone from a different site who suggested i follow an update link.

Many thanks for your advice and the time you have taken to respond to my emails.

I haven’t manually installed any type of codec- if i’m totally honest i don’t even know what a codec is.

The only thing i remember at initial installation is that i was asked if i wanted to install a .dar file which i accepted .

When i look at files in architect i can see the video but absolutely no audio file.

I can clearly see that the rendering process seems to be actioned seperatley. First it renders the video file- then it renders the audio file. Architect then loads up. I can play the clip but no audio appears at all. I even just created a simple video file from my didgi cam (which is less than 2 years old) and still no audio. Yet this audio plays in vegas and on the software which came with the cam.

Is there anyway i can downlaod specific codec files (if this is the issue) in order to rectify this problem.

Anoher update- it’s definately an audio issue.

When i try to play in architect there is an error message about audio streaming. The button in the top left where it lists file has none under audio.

This is strange as i have definately seen the status bar completed under the video and audio functions when it was completed in Vegas before being transferred into architect.

just wondering John if there is a way to render seperately (video then audio) in windows media player and link the files together?
