Thanks everyone for the input, most valuable. I think Steve really hit the nail on the head, very well thought out and balanced feedback. One thing I forgot to mention is the 60 net thing with client A has not been from the beginning of the relationship. I used to work directly with the sales agents who had control over their advertising and had accounts to pay for it upon delivery, that changed with the new Marketing Director getting rid of almost the entire sales team and taking control of every project. Now everything has to be run through accounting directly AND the company is hurting financially like everyone else. Thanks again everyone.

I use Vimeo exclusively for uploading secure, password protected content for client review and have rarely had issue with performance. The quality, if I compress properly before upload, can be amazing with HD content. I’m in the MId Atlantic, wondering if location has anything to do with performance?

[Mark Suszko] “Your wife’s going to be an excellent sounding board for you on this then”

Not really, her specialty is marriage and family, not douchebag clients!!! (while tempted, Mick refused to put an LOL after his statement, no matter how appropriate it seemed at the time)

[Mark Suszko] “You just want validation to feel good about it.”

Thanks for the input Mark. Yes I come here for validation as I value the opinions of other professionals on this forum. However, feeling good about it isn’t my goal. Just looking for opinions not psychotherapy, my wife’s a therapist so I get plenty of that at home.

[Gary Hazen] “From my experience, net 30 is standard practice in the industry”

It was until a lot and I mean a lot of people started getting screwed. I just instituted this same policy for new clients only and haven’t had a problem. As a matter of fact, two of my new clients paid me in full right after the initial shoot.

For my steady on time paying clients, it’s business as usual, net 15 or net 30 depending on our agreement.

I struggled with this very issue last week. In the end, no matter what Apple did, I just didn’t feel right about it and decided to stay put for now. You don’t have that option it seems as these are new machines with no previous version installed.

July 6, 2011 at 10:43 pm in reply to: Animated Stills Look Horrid

Thanks for responding Zach, I’m still using Motion 3(about to get 5). I’ve tried the Normal and Best switch to no avail. I’ve been experimenting with different blurs and think I have found an acceptable look by messing with Gaussian a bit. I just wish there was some preset or plug in for working with animated stills that completely eliminated this. It amazes me that no one has come up with a bullet proof solution as this is such a common issue that most folks just seem to “deal” with. Fortunately the client doesn’t notice. Any tips you or Stephen or anybody else has would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, a clue. I just tried animating one of the pics but only reduced scale to 88% and it cleaned up. Previously it was at 18%. So I kept it at 88% scale and just moved it back in Z space and the jaggies returned. Puzzling.

This is an architectural video so everything is lines, but yes, pretty much everything looks pixelated and jaggy.

July 4, 2011 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Colors not as rich when I export to QT

I have this issue all the time when working in Motion at 1920×1080. I’ll export my project natively, bring it into Compressor and render to h264, and check it in QT before uploading to the client. It ALWAYS looks washed out in QT but looks fine on the client’s DS network. How do the projects look when played back on the web??
