I installed the plugin https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/pdzk-lt2. Then,
I renamed the old driver in the folder and installed the new driver (5.0.1) at your link (note they had different names so perhaps it didn’t matter after all)Then the Content Browser could read the clips, but not export them.
So I rented the disc reader again, and many more files showed up using this new driver, when opening the drive top level folder under the finder:

Once I copied all the files from the discs with the new driver installed, the free MX4Mac player was opening them, but still not FCPX. So I opened them in the Content Browser, where they showed up well. I tried converting one to WMV (the only option it allowed) Once the conversion started, FCPX was able to recognize all the clips!
So all is good now, but I have to re-read all the discs from the external reader onto the HD, run Content Browser on the Clip folder and start converting one clip to WMV and then import all the clips into FCPX.
Interestingly, reading the discs took 4 hours each with the old driver, but only 20 minutes with the new one!
Thanks Again.

Any idea how to uninstall the existing XDCAM driver? Apple Support doesn’t know where it installs…
Thanks!

Thanks for helping on this! I bought the Sony “Standard Pack” Content Browser for Mac from here:
https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/contentbrowser
Jumping right in without reading the docs, I installed it and tried to Import the files (e.g. C0001A01.MXF above) , it burps:
Unsupported Clip.
Opened the Installation Guide, see that it says to open Applications->Utilities->System Information and look under Software->Extensions
to see about drivers, which should be:If a driver is already installed on your computer, confirm that the following version of the driver or later is installed. You can find the latest versions of drivers on the XDCAM website.
• FAM Driver: Ver. 2.3.3 or later (supposed to show up in Sys Info under [prodisc_fs] but there is none there)
• XDCAM Drive Software: Ver. 5.0.0 or later (Shows up in Sys Info under SonyXDCAMDriver, mine is 3.4.1)
• SxS Device Driver: Ver. 1.1.2.10220 or later
• SxS UDF Driver: Ver. 2.1.1 or laterThis page is generally helpful (but shows up under a search on the Sony site as having no name) https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/software_for_sony_equipment#xdcam
So I installed
FAM Driver (which requires a reboot) from here: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/famdriver#download
The SxS UDF Driver (reboot) from here: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/sxsudfdriver
I’m still researching how to remove the XDCAMDriver (not sure how it got there) because the installation doc says to remove the old one before installing the new one.Update soon

August 20, 2014 at 4:11 am in reply to: Can’t load sony F800 xdcam .MXF files into FCPXThanks! I checked out both products you mentioned. calibrated seems to have extra steps in creating XML files that mx4mac doesn’t mention. dDo you (anyone here!) have experience with the two products? Any preference/review?
Thanks again,

I used Dragonspeak to do this. It worked pretty well, producing the list of words spoken with pretty high accuracy, but of course no punctuation.
