Hi Gang,
We’ve been having the same problem with our HD. We’re mastering to DVCPro50 decks in NTSC SD. Nothing has changed in our set up from the implementation of the M100HD, our two M100i’s are working just fine and frame accurate. It sure seems to me, in our situation, that the HD software is playing the program two frames early compared to the edit in on the tape deck; ie the tape deck is editing accurately, just the timeline is playing two frames early. I’ve double checked all our decks’ settings, swapped decks, checked the M100HD settings, same as everyone else. My work around has been to simply start the edit two frames later.
To be honest, I hadn’t even noticed the discrepancy until my assistant pointed it out one day. But I usually master complete programs and rarely have to re-edit into/onto the tape master later. I’m very curious to see what the answer is on this…

Hello Juanjo,
If you are using your HD to do SD, I have somefiles, an SD SMPTE bars file and the corresponding 1 khz tone I can send you. The tones are from the old M100i and the SMPTE bars are right from our house SD signal generator. Send me an e-mail to production?kuvi45.com. Replace the “?” with an”@” sign in the e-mail address….

I have a digitized clip of dust and scratches that could be luma keyed either in Boris or After Effects. If you’re interested, let me know.

Well, Greg, I’m not an expert on spanish by any means. But my in house expert says you can do it either way. So it’s a matter of preference. He also says that when everything is capitalized, that is all the letters in your word, then accent marks are optional, too. However, I choose to err on the side of caution and use accent marks.
Hope this helps,
Todd

Assuming you have a correct spanish language translation, and the translation includes the correct accent marks, you have to use a multiple keystroke combination. For example,

This could be a deck/signal problem. We have both 100i and HD systems here with an SDI plant. If there is ever a flub up on the AES/EBU signal coming in, the M100’s will react.
I know this may sound very basic, but have you double checked your connections? Are your cables in good working conditions, ie: no broken wires or connectors? Are they AES/EBU cables, meaning are they using 110 ohm wire? Can you check the settings on your VTR and make sure the audio is leaving in 48khz? Have you tried shutting down the deck and restarting it? Can you digitize just video, with the audio toggled off in the M100 hardware menu? Also, now that I think of it, did this setup work prior to the software upgrade?Just some things to check, hope this helps….

If you’re working with non HD material, I don’t think the data rate will be much of an issue. At least not for short bursts. You could still digitize with the m100i codec, but leave the effects set for 8 bit HD and try that out for a while. Whichever way you go, please let us know how things work out.

I can’t speak to numbers 2, 3and 4.
However, I’ve noticed some funkiness with rendered timeline FX (colorfx, speed changes, etc). Prior to rendering, everything looked good and played properly, but upon rendering the fx screwed up (flashes and stutters). I was using the standard m100i compressor. When I changed to the 8 or 10 bit HD compressor, things cleared up, no more render problems. For a while I tried to use the m100i compressor to save media space on the drive array but since tracking this down I’ve just defaulted to the 8 bit HD. Uses more space, but I don’t have any more surprises.
Note, I digitized standard SDI 720 x 486 with the m100i compressor and later switched to the 8 bit HD for renders. Later I just defaulted to the 8 bit HD for everything. If this is your problem you should be ok just switching codecs, unrendering and then re-rendering. Worked for me.
Hope this helps…
