The displacement map in this project is in need of a bit (or a lot) of tweaking depending on how you want your flag to wave.

This is merely an example of how one might go about it.

I have no idea if this is anywhere near what you’re looking for or not.

No trees were harmed in the creation of this message, but several thousand electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

    One possible solution:
Duplicate your comp, delete all the layers except the television screen, do the Trapcode tutorial.
Then, in your main comp, hide your tv screen layer and place your tv_screen comp in the composition. (NOT as a 3d layer)

    Another solution:
Make your tv screen image be much brighter then the other layers (it probably is anyway, right?), do the Trapcode tutorial, use the threshold parameter in Shine to make it only affect really bright things (your screen).

I don’t have AE in front of me at the moment but until someone else posts I do have a suggestion. Use Fractal Noise (in a precomp) and set the vertical scale higher than the horizontal. I’d be able to come up with a better recipe for you, but I don’t have AE on this machine.

My system is still down in protection from the tornadoes Sunday night.

The processor you have is going to make a huge difference as far as rendering a project goes. (RAM previews and final render)

    What kind do you have?

I agree with Sam; don’t use Make Movie, use the Render Queue.

  • You can’t let such a handsome-looking young man be a leader on the COW, he already, no doubt, has the ladies chasing after him – NOW he’ll have to beat them off with a stick.

Don’t forget there are quite a few lovely tutorials here on the COW; just click on the After Effects title at the top of the forum.
