  • Thanks guys,

I’m guessing that the 8x VR RAID is external SAS and the rest are internal right, Stella?
It’s sort of similar but the opposite way round to what I was thinking.

I’m now thinking of a 10Gbe card in the file server and grade machine connected via crossover cable might be a way forward but need to go. I have another option as the new machine this is going in is a hackintosh with thunderbolt so could always go pegasus or drobo. I just need to read more about it …oh, and finish this feature grade 🙂

  • For features we generally render 2k 16bit TIFF sequences for DCP and 422HQ movs. This is why at roughly 1.6TB for a feature I couldn’t be sure of fitting it on the internal Velociraptor RAID along with the source if we went that way.

And I suppose the solution I’m being offered currently for the file server is just gigabit ethernet as nothing more advanced has been mentioned.

Maybe my question should be is a velociraptor RAID worth the space hit compared to caviar RAID for grading RED and rendering TIFF sequences?

    Hmm,

Caveat: I’ve never done this. it is more of a thought than a workflow…

maybe try getting the graded clips into FCP rather than getting your grades into Resolve v9 by loading your incoming XML into FCP then trying to fool it into accepting your new graded media. Perhaps having ran them through a batch renamer to de-Resolve the names.

Like I said, just a thought

Export all stills from 10 and load into 9 with their drx.

That will give you your grades just need to reapply shot by shot and redo the tracking – might at least drop the recreation time down to an hour or 2.

I find a lot of the edit ‘features’ confusing. Why has the playhead and selected clip become separated on next clip moves.

Say I’m clicking through the edit shot by shot checking the conform playhead and selected clip move along together THEN I find a clip that is wrong (might be the wrong clip might need scaling by 20% whatever) I click on the clip and correct it. Now when I click next clip the playhead and viewer remain and on the select clip highlight moves on- how is this useful? I now have to click into an empty track to lock them back together.

Also, why is the very useful function of being able to paste into another track gone – even in the manual cmd c cmd v only does the same track rather v9 where it was the much more useful selected track.

BTW haven’t updated to b3 yet as I’min the middle of a job

  • Well the short answer here is you can’t.

I’ve tried retrimming all the RED files but that doesn’t work either.
And in the RED trim process as laid out in the manual as far as I can see this option doesn’t exist:

“Now, right-click the conformed timeline in the Timelines list, choose Import > Additional Clips With Tight Filename Match, and then choose the directory to which you copied the trimmed R3D media in step 5.”

I’ve been reconforming this film for 2 days straight now and still nowhere. Don’t really feel Resolve is fit for purpose right now
