If you are using 10.1 there’s a new preference to backup to a location of your choosing. This backs up each library as a whole – you don’t need to back up each event.
If you consolidate the media to outside the library folder then the file doesn’t get as massive.
FWIW I now create a folder on my HD for each project, and then create two subfolders: Rushes and Added Media.
Rushes go in there and are backed up separately to blu ray. Everything else, graphics, music etc all goes in Added Media. FCP X 10.1 does its internal backups up to a folder on my machines internal HD – which is in turn backed up via time machine.
Then when I come to archiving, I just delete the rushes, run the project through X wiper to delete render files (Please apple they can live elsewhere!) and then put the project file and added media folder on an optical disc.

January 19, 2014 at 10:40 pm in reply to: To Editors thinking of switching to FCPX 10.1According to what he has posted here, it’s the majority of the show but what the hell does he know, he’s only the senior editor. You are obviously better informed than he is.
I’d suggest you search the posts here ..
Also FWIW, not that you seem to care about the real world but Knut Hake appears to be cutting “Dani lowinski” a German primtime Sat 1show on X – according to his twitter feed.

Not sure it’s limited to USB 3 – I have had FW800 drives dismount of their own accord to.

Just done a very quick short test and yippee! Finally if you make a multicam sequence of a bunch of clips (say an interview) where the camera starts and stops this will now read properly in Resolve.

BBC 2’s The Culture Show has been cut on FCP X almost exclusively since the start of 2013. According to the senior editor who posts here occasionally. If that has changed I think its down to politics at the BBC rather than problems with the SW.
If you read between the lines of Larry Jordans Amsterdam Supermeet keynote , there is a multi million dollar movie currently begin cut on X – and doing well and quickly thanks to programs like Sync and Link from IA.
