Okay that is a little different than Capture Now of the first post. 🙂
I know you are looking for exact info (which if I was guessing is going to be out there) but to me the difference is in camera specs. Going from SD DV to HD Intra. The other factor on the down side of P2 is storage and backup. There is a lot of time and cost involved that doesn’t exist in the tape world.
Also the time to transcode the P2 will depend on the system used. An iMac or a 8-core will capture at the same rate but a new fast Mac Pro will transcode a lot faster.
I think you would be best served to go rent a P2 camera, and put the work flow through its paces. Time YOUR system with ingest.
There is something comforting about Tape that you just don’t have with P2 (or any card based system) The time to get to the editing bay is just one of the many things you need to think through.

I can’t answer the time factor but one of the biggest differences is you have instant clips instead of 8 hours on a tape. ( what are you recording 8 hours to?) So you just do straight dump (no setting In/Out points no logging info the P2 will have small clips to work with instead of a single 8 hour clip.

The toughest thing is you really need a lot of extras to make a DSLR work as a video camera. But the Stock T2i even with the kit lens can do it. But you can build as you go, you can borrow stuff, you can rent stuff, you can make it happen but you have to start out at the $900 range if you want to do real video work.

If you want H264 why do you want to tie it to a AVI wrapper. H264 is one of the widely used, cross platform codecs. All you need to do is save it as a .mp4 and it will play on most systems. PC and Mac a like.

You can through QT Pro, very limited but you can capture a H.264 stream live.

It is like any of the “i: apps, it is great for what it does. If your needs fits within its box it is fine. If you need to do true authoring you hit a walk pretty quickly but there are people that never hit the walk.

Any camera can play nice with FCP, you just need to convert the movies to something like prores. If you tell us your budget and what you normally shoot we can give you educated advice.

How was the timecode sent to each camera, did you also send reference to the cameras?
Normally this is a camera problem and not a FCP problem.

Greenscreen and house fluorescents would never be a good idea, you have to shut those things off on any shoot but especially greenscreen. Don’t know if it is the cause of the yellow bands, you should post a still frame. Also you have to be testing your greenscreen footage out before you really get into the shoot. I don’t shoot that much but I know that if it is not well lit and the correct exposure you are in trouble.
Also these cameras are not the best of greenscreen, too much compression, too little color space. They are also not know for great down scaling to 720p, all this may have added up to what you are seeing.

Not for video. Will it work, yes but if you read any of the post about video for DSLR one thing everyone tells people, you need to get fixed aperture zooms. And normally anything with that much range will not be top quality. If you just want to have a walking around lens for causal picture/movie taking it maybe okay. If you are interested in quality it will not be great. The problem is that for quality and speed you will be spending a lot more money.
So asking “is this a good lens for me” with telling what level of photography and what type of shooting you plan to do normally give you what the poster thinks he/she about using the lens in their work, which may or may not be what you need.
