This means that the frame rate of the clips coming from the Nikon are not at the same rate as the project/timeline. What format/frame rate did you shoot? Make sure you’re not in a 24.000 project, versus 23.976.

I am only guessing that this is the issue at this point, until I can get in front of a system to check it out.
In MC v6, when you transcode a clip that is different that the project rate, the .new clip and media become the same rate as the project (while losing all links to the original file, so be careful for EDL, and other such needs). Take that .new clip and drop it on the script and see if you can index, redo marks, and such as a test.

Are they of the same frame rate as the project, or are you working with mix & match when this occurs? I have never heard of this issue. can you delete marks and start over?

All columns are searchable on master clips, subclips, etc. I also use ScriptSync as a form of span-based searches by having a description on a page then drop the clip(s) on the script. One can use manual sync reference for non dialog pieces. If there is dialog, then it can be synced automatically via phonetic indexing. Then all scripts become searchable as well.
What I like about “subclips” in general is the graphical overview of takes in a bin where a picture is a thousand words. A simple glance will often work…

A more detailed version would be in the online help within the application under “AutoSync”. But for a quick description… it won’t be that “auto” in your scenario as there is no common timecode between the sources. After you mark IN on source, select matching picture and sound clips (two at a time), and under the BIN menu select “AutoSync”. Options are described in online manual if needed.

I suspect the frame rate was really 23.976, so create a 1080p/23.976 project type. You can AMA to the sources and choose to edit that way or transcode to a native DNxHD format.
The 30fps timecode is not that big an issue as I suspect it was not jam synced to the camera so the timecode is irrelevant for syncing automatically anyway.
Syncing can be done with the AMA linked media or the transcoded clips, but you will mark an IN on picture that matches sound and do “AutoSync” based on Mark In. You will get a new .sync clip with picture from the Nikon and sound from your external recorder.

Look in the “special” menu for the authorize/de-authorize selection and it should be available there as well. Also look in the console after a boot up for all system information.
If none of that works, has it been registered? If so, then Avid would have it on file, and you can call support to get it taken care of.

Pan & Zoom is the only method within Avid to access higher than HD resolution media and is for single stills only. All other “movie” clip media is scaled to project size upon import. There might be third party plug-ins that allow this such as Boris, but I don’t know off the top of my head.

This will work as long as you import the original clip in its entirety.
